Join the Stewardship Team for an evening of horseshoe crab monitoring! Since 2013, NYC Parks has been monitoring horseshoe crab spawning activity along the restored sandy beach at Coney Island Creek. We'll be walking the beach to count the number of crabs present and tagging them to keep track of how many we've already seen as part of NYC Parks' ongoing effort to monitor their activity. This exciting work contributes to a long-term research study that is helping us to better understand and protect the horseshoe crabs that live in our urban waters. Come and take a closer look at our city’s valuable natural resources! Please come dressed in layers, clothes that can get dirty, and waterproof boots or sneakers, and bring your own water bottle. All volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Tonight’s exciting line-up of live music:

Adler Hall is a Brooklyn-based, bedroom orchestra led by composer/songwriter John Henry Hoagland. Their debut album (Tourist) was released in September of 2016. Using field recordings from Japan and Brooklyn as a backdrop for its storytelling, (Tourist) explores the places – both near and far – where we struggle to reconcile what we look for with what we find.

Growing Stone is the music of singer-songwriter Skylar Sarkis, made in conjunction with producer/bandmate Jon Markson..

Lizdelise - “Super chill and artfully crafted indie, folk pop that is so soothing! Definitely an awesome mix of killer guitar riffs, amazing vocals and song structures that just blow stuff I’ve heard from this genre in the past out of the water!” Radio Static, New Release Tuesday

Few experiences compare with being on the open water in New York City. The rhythm of the waves, the sun on your face, and the exhilaration of slicing through the water all add up to an experience you’ll never forget.

Our trained Urban Park Rangers will lead you on canoe adventures that range from the gentle waters of protected lakes to the challenging open waters of rivers and bays. All canoe programs are for ages 8 years and older. Participation in a mandatory safety review led by a trained Ranger is required.

Some experience is preferred; first-come, first-served. The line to participate may be closed prior to 1:30 p.m., due to demand.
