?Polyphony Marimba plays classically influenced African music in a nine-piece acoustic marimba ensemble.

Polyphony Marimba
Our sound is joyful and powerful and primal, simultaneously ancient and new. We deeply study the music of Zimbabwe and are honored to share some of her greatest traditional songs. And we understand the imperative of that tradition: to make it real for us we must live it and bring our own creativity into it, thus half of our repertoire is original compositions, all underpinned by that deep rhythmically complex African groove. Our music is exuberantly infectious, expressing an unmistakable spiritual dimension and great artistic complexity, and we are delighted at the opportunity to share it on this, our sixth American tour!

For New York music lovers and visitors alike, smooth tunes return to HRPK’s Pier 84. In partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America, we are proud to bring these fantastic performers to your west side backyard. Make sure you mark the dates now, and don’t miss a special performance by Robin Barnes - from New Orleans!

Presented in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America.

The Jazz Foundation of America is a national non-profit committed to providing financial, legal, medical and housing assistance, as well as work opportunities, to jazz, blues and roots musicians in need, with a special focus on the elderly--those greats who have "paid their dues" but can't pay their bills due to age, illness or circumstance. Each year JFA assists in 3000 cases through its social work department, and presents nearly 1000 concerts in its performance programs. This is the organization's 30th year.

Jazz at Pier 84 is presented by JFA's Gig Fund program, which is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
