Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ tale updated with a modern sensibility that appeals to kids. In this story, Little Red is a smart, young city dweller who is obsessed with her smartphone. Wulfric, a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth, crosses paths with Little Red on her travels to deliver her Grandma cupcakes and the trouble begins. This story offers a comical lesson on the importance to disconnect from our digital lives and enjoy real life moment with friends and family.

A permanent exhibition celebrating the community's maritime heritage.

Located on the southermost point of New York, Tottenville's coastal environment was at the center of its rich maritime history. The surrounding waterways provided economic and social benefits, and the area became a natural location for bustling shipbuilding and repair yards. The Rutan-Becket House stands as a testament to this industry. The exhibition highlights both the economic and social use of the waterfront from the mid-19th century through the 20th century with photographs, artifacts, and artwork.

The exhibition is open by appointment.

In this story, Little Red is a smart, young city dweller who is obsessed with her smartphone. Wulfric, a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth, crosses paths with Little Red on her travels to deliver her Grandma cupcakes and the trouble begins. In Association with Maker Park Radio

One of Daptone Records’ earliest projects, the Budos Band formed out of a New York jam session put together by local heroes Antibalas, coalescing into an instrumental psychedelic soul band that channels Afro-funk through ’70s rock and late-’60s R&B. The Staten Island born-and-bred band’s latest LP is 2020’s Long in the Tooth. Brazilian guitarist Rogê moves between bossa nova, samba, and reggae with ease, and draws inspiration from the African jongo, samba, afoxé and maculelê. An enthusiastic collaborator, his latest is a 2020 album with Seu Jorge; his NA VEIA project with Arlindo Cruz earned them a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Samba Album. The show is hosted by Tom Ferrie, from the Staten Island streaming community radio station Maker Park Radio.

Born in France to Chilean parents in political exile during Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship in Chile, Ana Tijoux’s political perspective was shaped from birth. After returning to Chile in the 90s, she cut her teeth in the country’s hip-hop underground with the politically conscious rap group Mazika, and later, as a featured artist with Control Machete. But she’s never been limited to one genre, evidenced by her work with the funk bands Las Tetas and Aluzinati, as well as her collaborations with pop singer Julieta Venegas. She also won a Latin Grammy for “Universos Paralelos,” her duet with Jorge Drexler. But she’s perhaps best known in the States for her return-to-rap album 1977, which garnered her international exposure in videogames (FIFA 11) and American television (Breaking Bad). She’s joined by Meridian Brothers, an electronic rock band from Bogotá, Colombia, that experiments with Latin American rhythms and styles; and Bembona, a Puerto Rican-Panamanian DJ whose practice empowers the Latinx community, on the decks to get the show started.

For a moment in the late 80s and early 90s, the Staten Island-based R&B group Force M.D.s swirled doo-wop harmonies with hip-hop beats into hits like “Tender Love,” featured in the seminal hip-hop movie Krush Groove, and “Love is a House,” which hit #1 on the R&B charts. But the group was also touched by tragedy—four of its original members suffered early deaths. This year the group’s surviving members—Rodney “Khalil” Lundy, Stevie D., and Zieme—celebrate founding member Jesse Lee Daniels, who passed earlier this year. The Force M.Ds—”MD” stands for “Musical Diversity”—celebrate the group’s music and influence with the help of WBLS DJs S-1 and Bugsy Buggs.
