Village Community Boathouse provides free, no experience necessary Community Rowing at Pier 40 on the Hudson River every Sunday at noon and every Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., from April through November, weather permitting.

Each Sunday after a brief orientation, participants will be split into crews with an experienced coxswain to steer the boat and a mixture of experienced and new rowers. Our boats, Whitehall Gigs, are stable, traditional working boats for four rowers and a coxswain.

*Please note*: Rows will last between one and three hours, dependent on weather, tides, and destination. Participants are expected to help launch, retrieve, and clean the boats each session.

Community rowing is open to all, although some physical agility is required. The focus of the program is teamwork and recreation in a safe and respectful environment. Each participant must sign a waiver. Life jackets are provided. Expect to be out in the hot sun for several hours - bring water and sunscreen!

Village Community Boathouse is a 501(c)3 volunteer-run non-profit organization. While no commitment is required to row with us, we depend on the public's contributions of time and money to make our programs possible.

"Threads" examines the history of linen production from field to fabric. Visitors can examine the Conference House collection of antique tools of the trade such as flax break, hackle, carder, and spinning wheel. The exhibit includes dried flax plant samples, yarn, and linens.

Linen, a natural textile used and valued by humans for thousands of years for its useful properties, was the fabric of choice in colonial America. Linen fabric is made from the cellulose fibers that grow inside of the stalks of the flax plant. Linum usitatissimum is one of the oldest cultivated plants in human history.

Mr Eazi describes his laid-back bops as his pioneering Banku music—named after the heavy Ghanian comfort food—and while the Afropop artist makes soundtracks for good times, he also represents the cultural exchange between African neighbors Nigeria and Ghana. Born in the former and educated in the latter, the recent Mad Decent signee often touches on themes of migration, and can be seen on the cover of his 2017 mixtape Life Is Eazi, Vol. 1 – Accra To Lagos in a suit tailored in the fashion of a Ghana Must Go bag, a symbol of the link between the two countries. He’s joined by Efya, the Ghanian pop singer from Kumasi who won four consecutive Ghana Music Awards for Best Female Vocal Performance (2011-2014) and collaborated with Mr Eazi on their breakout hit “Skin Tight.” The show will also feature the stylings of “Blinky” Bill Sellanga, the Red Bull Music Academy alumnus and Kenyan frontman for the house/funk/disco group Just a Band, with support from DJ Mahogany, a Brooklyn-bred DJ currently spinning unpredictable genre-defying sets in Europe.

In Association with Afro-Latino Fest

Tabou Combo was founded in Petion-Ville by the Chancy brothers in late-1960s Haiti, but the self-proclaimed "ambassadors of konpa" have taken their style of Haitian dance music around the world since their move to Brooklyn in 1971. The orchestra, whom are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year, borrows the repetition and breaks of Afro-American gospel, while incorporating African soukous and American funk with French colonial kontradans and quadrilles. They're supported by Lakou Mizik, a multi-generational Port-au-Prince collective that celebrates the African, French, American, and Pan-Caribbean influences that collide in Haiti.

Family, in all of its beautiful forms, stands as a cornerstone of the human experience, creating intersections between past, present, and future, simultaneously weaving larger connections in the community. During August and September 2018, David Flores offered free family portraiture in Railroad Park and the greater Morrisania neighborhood with on-site photography, printing, display, and digital sharing. This project is a response to recent nationalist movements that have attempted to remove and erase familial representations of immigrants and people of color. Parents, children, elders, extended family and friends all participated in the making of formal images and left with a large format print of themselves free of charge.

This project is a collaboration with ArtBuilt, Queens Museum, DreamYard, WHEDco, Bronx Defenders and NYC Parks.

This exhibition is an extension of ArtBuilt Mobile Studio in the Park, made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, Surdna Foundation, and The New York Community Trust. Additional support is provided by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

86 minutes.
Documentary in English with Spanish subtitles (2015, USA).
Appropriate for children and young adults.
Pre-show dance class and performance by Rumbamena Dance Company at 6:30 p.m.

Landfillharmonic follows the Recycled Orchestra of Cateura, a Paraguayan musical group that plays instruments made entirely out of garbage. When their story goes viral, the orchestra is catapulted into the global spotlight. Under the guidance of idealistic music director Favio Chavez, the orchestra must navigate a strange new world of arenas and sold-out concerts. However, when a natural disaster strikes their community, Favio must find a way to keep the orchestra intact and provide a source of hope for their town. The film is a testimony to the transformative power of music and the resilience of the human spirit.

Come to Fort Tryon Park and try something new. Join us on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings for one hour of walking, stretching, and strengthening exercises.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their workouts, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

Exercise with a view, in natural sunlight, with green scenery all around bestows health benefits that can’t be found indoors. Scientific studies have shown that the pleasure of being outdoors for example gives your brain, psyche, and immune system an extra boost.

All of our fitness programs are free, led by trained professionals, and suitable for all levels. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Please check back for rain and weather/air advisory cancels.

Please note: Fitness programs are canceled if the weather is lower than 20 degrees and when there are icy conditions. Saturday morning walks begin at 8:30 a.m.

Tour Glyndor Gallery with Wave Hill’s Curatorial Fellow or Gallery Greeter to get an insider’s view of current exhibitions.

The exhibition Here We Land features three former Winter Workspace artists, Camille Hoffman, Maria Hupfield, and Sara Jimenez, who return to explore narratives about contested space that draws on personal and cultural touch points in their immersive installations. In the Sunroom, Amir Hariri creates sculptural installations constructed of wood, brick and other building materials—along with a wall drawing—that connect to his architectural research to the Bronx and Wave Hill. In the Sun Porch, Geoffrey Owen Miller suspends transparent, upside down sculptures of flora and fauna—inspired by Wave Hill—from the ceiling over sheets of black-mirrored glass. Visitors see prismatic reflections of the hanging plants and animals in upright positions in the glass.
