Many older adults have lived a life they often do not share. In this class, participants will tell their stories to record for themselves or leave behind as a legacy for their families. They are the keepers of the family stories and have survived much like warriors. we will go through the developmental years from childhood into adulthood.

Childhood: What were you like as a child? (curious, rambunctious, creative, talkative, quiet, etc?) What caught your attention? What did you get into trouble for? (curiosity, creativity, being the oldest/youngest/middle child), Who were your role models? What did you do that was unusual? Did your childhood personality predict who you would be as an adult?

Stories may be submitted for publication. Writers and storytellers retain rights to their stories.

Please note: This class is open to adults via Zoom if unable to attend in person. To register for the Zoom link, please email Lucy.Aponte@parks.nyc.gov. In-person participation will take place at St. Mary's Recreation Center at 450 St. Ann's Avenue, Bron NY 10455.

GrowTogether with us for Earth Week at Part 2 of the 38th Annual GreenThumb GrowTogether Conference! Learn about the dynamics of composting, which are both similar to and interdependent upon human digestion. Dr. Wilson and Mr. Jin view this interdependency in a holistic approach from the lens of Chinese medicine. The quality of compost produced creates nutrient-rich plants which then support the physical and mental health of the human body directly due to the phenomenon known as the gut-brain connection. In this presentation, we are going to discuss the similarities between composting, fermentation, and the human digestive system, and how composting relates to our internal and external environments.
