GrowTogether with us for Earth Week at Part 2 of the 38th Annual GreenThumb GrowTogether Conference! Living microorganisms are working constantly to keep our world balanced. In soil, they harmonize to sustain a living system that passes life along to the ecosystem rooted in it. Effective microorganisms (EM1) are a group of three microbes that promote higher beneficial microbe populations in soil. Although these occur organically in nature, many of our soils have been depleted of their microbial life. The good news is, we can make EM1 in our own homes! The applications are endless: drain cleaner, declogger, fertilizer, compost accelerator, Bokashi starter, natural herbicide, fungicide, and insecticide, surface sanitizer, odor neutralizer, you name it. In this workshop, participants will learn how to recycle their food waste into Bokashi compost, how to promote healthy microorganisms in soil, and how to take advantage of the many additional benefits EM1 has to offer.

Register on Eventbrite.

Facilitated by Sacesha Bennett and Emely Chahin, Paradise Community Garden. Sacesha seeks to help others understand simplistic ways to help the environment. With an open mind and circular goal, Sacesha has practiced various types of composting and has passionately searched for innovations that limit waste and greenhouse gases. Emely is part of the GreenThumb Youth Leadership Council.

Learn about the controversies behind the New York State Pavilion, and what’s in the Westinghouse Time Capsules that are scheduled to be dug up 5,000 years from when they were buried.

In honor of the famous culinary World’s Fair treat, we will be serving free tiny versions of the Belgian Waffle (while supplies last) as a welcome to our first docent-led World’s Fair walk of the season.

No registration needed. Just meet us at the green pop-up tent at the Unisphere and hope to see you there!

Midori & Friends presents a Mother’s Day celebration for the whole family featuring Alsarah & the Nubatones and the Villalobos Brothers.

Alsarah is a Sudanese-born singer, songwriter, and ethnomusicologist, and together with the Nubatones she enchants audiences with East African retro-pop, proving that soul transcends cultural and linguistic barriers. The Villalobos Brothers are one of today’s leading Contemporary Mexican ensembles. Their original compositions and arrangements masterfully fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music.
