Come to this workshop to learn about ways to lengthen your gardening season. We'll discuss what to plant and when to plant it in order to get an early start on your spring harvests, as well as how to have a garden that lasts into the cold, wintry months. You will learn about techniques like row covering and mulching, low tunneling, and the use of greenhouses.

Registered Grow to Learn gardens only will be eligible to take 15 seven-foot pieces of galvanized wire and 60 feet of row cover to make low tunnels, while supplies last. Please be prepared to take them with you after the workshop.

In conjunction with the Oscar-Nominated movie “12 Years A Slave,” learn about the untold story of Solomon Northup’s wife, Anne.

Annean innovator in American cuisinewas an ambitious, independent free African-American woman in 19th century New York.

Historian Greg Washington will lead a tour of the mansion and the local neighborhood as Anne would have experienced them in the 1840's. Professor Jane Lancaster will discuss the relationship of Anne Northup and Eliza Jumel in Saratoga Springs and New York. Finally, food historian, Tonya Hopkins, will recreate some of Anne Northup's recipes for a three-course formal dinner, while leading a conversation about Anne's life and career.

This program is sponsored by the New York Council for the Humanities, a state-affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
