The Haunted Pumpkin Garden is back and spookier than ever!

Experience the thrills and chills of the season with a garden full of intricately carved pumpkin sculptures, bugs, bats, parades, and more.

New this year: the Haunted Pumpkin Garden features creepy-creature encounters every weekend and the largest Spooky Nighttime Adventures trail ever!

On October 19–20, watch master carver Ray Villafane of the Food Network transform humongous pumpkins into unearthly creatures. It's so much fun, it's scary!

Pumpkin sculptures of spooky scarecrows, frightening spiders, sneaky snakes, and more await discovery at every turn in the Everett Children's Adventure Garden. The display includes more than 500 intricately carved pumpkins that are sure to capture your youngster's imagination.

Every day kids can play inside a "gourd-geous" Pumpkin House, put on a scary show at the Pumpkin Puppet Theater, look for wiggly worms, and join a Halloween Parade, while every weekend offers even more treats.

Join a curatorial fellow for a tour of Wave Hill’s fall exhibition, Tandem Pursuits: Armor & Ichthyology, which celebrates the interests of former Wave Hill House resident Bashford Dean. Dean was Curator of Arms and Armor at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Curator of Fish at the American Museum of Natural History. The intersection of his interest in both fish and armor provides the opportunity to bring together a remarkable group of contemporary art that explores concepts of adaptation, pattern, and protection. The tour also includes Sunroom Project Space installations by Van Lier Visual Artist Fellows Onyedika Chuke and Francisco Donoso.

<![CDATA[Lecture: Six Footed Sublime: Insects in New York City]]> Date: October 8, 2013

The philosopher Immanuel Kant described the sublime in three forms: the noble, the splendid, and the terrifying. Insects represent all three, beautiful and inspiring while simultaneously alien and frightening. Mike Feller’s photographs of insects in New York City Parks illustrate their diverse forms and natural history, which both seduce and repel.

Mike Feller is the Chief Naturalist of the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, Natural Resources Group. Having started with Parks as an Urban Park Ranger in 1983, he is now celebrating his 30th year. He has a degree in Anthropology from SUNY-Albany and has completed graduate studies in Archaeology, Ethnobotany, and Cultural Ecology. He suffered from a fear of insects until taking an entomology class as a graduate student at Queens College in 1993. Mike’s nature photographs have been published in the New York Times, The Conservationist, GEO, Brooklyn Bridge, Universum (Austria), and five books by other authors on the natural history of New York City.
