The tree lighting will take place at 5:00 p.m. in Railroad Park, followed by the Parranda which will begin after the tree lighting. Hot chocolate will be served.

    Bundle up and find out what your favorite Park animals are doing this winter. Join Alliance naturalists to discover the winter survival strategies of animals that live in Prospect Park. Enjoy nature games, science activities and bird watching!
    Blooming Naturalist, 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.: Learn how to identify birds, use binoculars and create your own "Official Blooming Naturalist" button.
    Animal Encounter, 3 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Curious as to how “Snappy” the turtle got her name? Want to watch the snake gobble up a mouse? Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection and even assist in an actual feeding.

Recycle your Christmas trees at MulchFest!

Join NYC Parks, the New York City Department of Sanitation , and GreeNYC to recycle your Christmas trees into wood chips. These wood chips are used to nourish trees and plants on streets and gardens citywide.

How to "Chip In"

There are two ways you can help:

Chipping Locations
Bring your tree to a chipping site during MulchFest on January 7 and 8. Watch your tree get chipped in front of you, and get a free potpourri bag or a free bag of mulch to take home for your garden. To find a chipping site near you, visit our MulchFest event page.

Drop Off Locations

The first Tinker Lab Open House of 2017 will be held on January 8. Participants can come on a drop-in base. On-site registration will be available for the 2017 first spring Tinker Lab class: Electro Light Instrument.

Electro Light Instrument
This project is a further step built on the 2016 fall Bio Bot class. In this new class, participants will make musical instrument. Each key will be a circuit shaped from a mechanical drawing by Lewis H. Latimer. The circuit is complete when the kid touches a key, thus producing sound and light with LEDs!

While our public tours on Fridays and Saturdays are normally geared for an adult audience, we’ve planned engaging, kid-friendly tours, hands-on activities, scavenger hunts, and more on select Saturdays. If the weather’s nice, bring a picnic and enjoy our grounds before or after your visit to the house.

If you plan to visit with children under 10, we recommend visiting before 2 p.m. to take advantage of specially planned activities for younger children.
