Come to Fort Tryon Park and try something new. Join us on Saturdays, Tuesday and Thursday mornings for one hour of walking, stretching, and strengthening exercises.

All of our fitness programs are free, led by trained professionals, and suitable for all levels. Wear comfortable clothing and bring water. Rain and weather / air advisory cancels. Fitness programs are cancelled if the weather is lower than 20 degrees.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. After years of being a gym rat, I've seen the light, so to speak. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their work outs, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

Exercise with a view, in natural sunlight, with green scenery all around bestows health benefits that can’t be found indoors. Scientific studies have shown that the pleasure of being outdoors for example gives your brain, psyche, and immune system an extra boost.

The Randall’s Island Park Alliance, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, and Made Event are pleased to present FLOW, the annual summer art exhibit along the shoreline at Randall’s Island Park in New York City. FLOW is aimed at fostering appreciation of the shoreline through artistic expression, while calling visitors to interact with and care for the Park’s island environment. Each year, FLOW features five site specific projects by participants in the Bronx Museum’s Artists in the Marketplace (AIM) program for emerging artists.

Randall’s Island Park is a unique and remarkable waterfront resource, located in the East River with views of the Queens, Bronx and Manhattan shorelines. New waterfront pathways run along the 4.5-mile shoreline, which includes almost 9 acres of restored salt marsh and freshwater wetlands. The Park also offers a track & field stadium, a golf center, a 20-court tennis center and dozens of new playing fields, as well as the Harlem River Event Site, home of Made Event’s Electric Zoo, a three-day Labor Day weekend concert event at Randall’s Island which draws local and international DJ artists and audience.

FLOW.13 – this year's third annual exhibition – will be open to the public every day from June-November, and will feature five new site-specific installations, all reflecting and encouraging interaction with the Park’s history and environment. The five installations are located along the southern shoreline of Randall's Island Park.

FLOW is made possible through support from Made Event, proud producers of The Electric Zoo Festival, NYC’s largest electronic dance music festival, held annually at Randall’s Island Park.

The FLOW exhibitions express the confluence of art, music and environment at Randall’s Island Park, in the midst of one of the world’s greatest cities.

House Work explores Lynch’s concern and interest in feminine identity and the home, much like the domestic craft work created by 18th and 19th century housewives. Going beyond simple ornamentation, her intensely hand-worked woodcuts clearly illustrate her belief in the purification of self through meditative labor—quietly expressing frustration, instability and obsession through intricate or repeating patterns influence by historic textiles, window dressings, and wallpaper.NYC Parks is pleased to announce the exhibition House Work, a series of prints and installations by Cara Lynch on view at the Poe Park Visitor Center through October 5, 2013. We'll meet at a different NYC location each week to clean-up, aerate and mulch tree beds, beautifying our neighborhoods, while cleaning air and promoting green space. No experience is necessary and kids are welcome with adult supervision. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen and clothes for gardening. HII will provide gloves and all of the necessary tools.

Gaze at the stars, planets, and Moon through the high-powered telescopes of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York, and chat with the experts about the sights you see. Stargazing at the High Line takes place every Tuesday, beginning at dusk, between Tuesday, April 2 and Tuesday, October 29.

Hear the story behind New York City’s park in the sky. Tuesday Tours are free hour-long walking tours led by High Line Docents, knowledgeable volunteer guides who offer you an insider’s perspective on the park’s history, design, and landscape.

Tuesday Tours take place weekly between Tuesday, May 7 and Tuesday, September 24.

Space is limited. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to guarantee a spot.

Tuesday Tours are subject to cancellation due to weather. Check back or follow @highlinenyc on Twitter for updates every Tuesday by noon.

The Fitness Guru (aka Michael Feigin) is back in the park for Pilates Mat classes overlooking the New York Harbor. Learn to properly activate the muscles of your abdomen and back to create an incredible amount of stability in your torso. Pilates is designed to restore the natural curvature of the spine while rebalancing the muscles around the joints.

A few notes:

  • Registration begins at 6:30 pm each evening.
  • Remember to bring a mat if you have one (a limited number of mats are available first come first served - with valid ID).
  • Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All participants must sign a waiver each night before participating.
