The British duo, Disclosure, consists of brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence (aged just 20 and 17 respectively). In a New York Times profile of Disclosure, the brothers talked about how “they arrived at their sound through pure reverse engineering, growing up listening to the generation of musicians making what could be broadly described as post-2-step, and then working their way backward.” Having racked up hundreds of thousands of Soundcloud plays with their remixes for Jessie Ware and Emeli Sande, the duo is currently working towards a much-anticipated debut album. With their debut EP Carnival / I Love That…You Know receiving over 50,000 downloads in over 150 countries to date, they have proved that their distinctively British style of music has true global appeal. Forget age limitations and lazy categorizations, Disclosure is simply the sound of electronic music – past, present, and future.

TNGHT is the sound of two of the very best new producers in the industry amplifying each other. Pooling their talents as TNGHT, they are helping to redefine the state of new pop, dance music and Hip-Hop in a wholly fresh fusion. Born of this A.D.D generation looking towards the internet but equally born of vinyl culture, sample chopping and digging, they have emerged to take the helm of Hip-Hop and Pop music.

It might seem counterintuitive for a producer to detach themselves from one of the planet’s most thriving music scenes, but in the case of Julio Bashmore, that’s exactly what he did growing up in bass music hotbed. Julio may have appeared to burst on to the scene in late 2009, but the lead up to the Julio Bashmore EP was essentially a lifetime in the making. Julio’s interest in electronic music began in earnest after hearing Daft Punk’s “Da Funk”. By the time he was old enough to experience club culture firsthand, Julio had made the realization that DJing was the true vehicle in which to deliver his music.

Jungle Brothers is an American Hip-Hop group that pioneered the fusion of Jazz and Hip-Hop and also became the first Hip-Hop group to use a house-music producer. The group began performing in the mid-1980s and released its first album, Straight Out the Jungle, in 1988. With Afrocentric lyrics and innovative beats, the Jungle Brothers were critically acclaimed and soon joined the influential Native Tongues collective. In 2008, their single “What U Waitin 4” was ranked number 88 on VH1's 100 Greatest Songs of Hip Hop.

Zhigge is a dance/rap group from New York whose members Kazo, Face, Prancer, Sound and Tonga had already made a name for themselves dancing in Hip-Hop clubs and appearing in videos by Special Ed, Public Enemy, YZ and others. Pronounced “schiggy,” the group’s name stands for anything fly or fresh.

SummerStage celebrates the acclaimed Hip-Hop brand, Lyricist Lounge. A respected part of Hip-Hop music and culture, Lyricist Lounge has hosted hundreds of live showcases featuring the best up and coming talent while acting as a career platform for many of today’s superstars.

Acclaimed impresario of non-traditional theater Randy Weiner and director Alfred Preisser team up for a hip-hop themed theater remake of the classic story, “King Kong,” a totally original music/dance/comedy spectacle that radically subverts everything you thought you knew about one of the most famous love stories of all time. Set in the “Bronx is Burning” era of the late 1970s, SummerStage's “King Kong” celebrates the nascent forms of hip-hop music and graffiti art that grew out of the economically stressed South Bronx and went on to become one of the defining, most powerful and profitable artistic movements in the world.

The Gold brothers, the owners of a failing R&B label (Gold Records) are in search of a musical savior. Having heard of a mystic place, a lost world cut off from the rest of civilization by the East River to the south and the Cross Bronx Expressway to the north and enshrouded in the fog of a thousand apartment building fires set by absentee landlords, the legendary South Bronx of 1978 is also the home of the most talented artist alive. Kong is an M.C. and natural genius of rhyme and rhythm whose awesome powers transcend artificial categories and defy the crass and hackneyed formulas of the commercial music industry. In hot pursuit of Kong, the Gold brothers hire a beautiful secretary, Faye Wellington, and go off to capture this force of nature in order to profit from Kong's gifts and share his music with a world desperately in need of inspiration. They load up the Gold family Volvo and journey to deepest, darkest South Bronx to capture Kong and bring him to civilization.

SummerStage Theatre, in collaboration with Preisser and Weiner, have created a fun, outrageous, and thoroughly entertaining work that will be not only be a unique and exciting experience but also a twisted and insightful treatment of the racial stereotypes inherent in the “King Kong” story.
