Join us in the Great Room for a screening and discussion of Brooklyn-based photographer, musician, and activist Bev Grant’s film, Bev Grant Photography: Photographs of Struggle for Change Through the Eyes of an Insider.

The film combines Grant’s photographs of the protest movements of the late 1960s and early 1970s with her personal narratives of these events and her own path to activism.

After moving to New York City in the 1960s, Grant began photographing while participating in demonstrations such as the No More Miss America protest in Atlantic City and the anti-Vietnam War Jeannette Rankin Brigade in Washington, DC. As a member of the film collective New York Newsreel she gained access to groups including the Young Lords Party, the Black Panther Party and the Poor People’s Campaign.

This event is in conjunction with our exhibition Bev Grant Photography: 1968-1972, on view through March 27, and the launch of her book by the same name, published by OSMOS Books, New York (2021).

Proof of vaccination and masks are required, no children under age 5 will be admitted.

Please note the venue is not wheelchair accessible.

Musical Ecologies continues with composer and media artist David Linton. Active in New York City since the late 1970s, Linton is known for his experimental mixed-media performances and installations.

For this performance he will present Citharodeo, a new work for electric guitar that approaches the instrument as “a spatially embedded vibrating medium.” Using extended techniques, non-traditional tunings and rich signal processing, the performance will animate the unique acoustics of the Great Room at the Old Stone House.
