Join us at Pace University to watch City of Trees and participate in a dynamic conversation on themes including community engagement, environmental justice, employment barriers, racial justice and personal narratives. Other related themes of urban forestry, economic recovery and reinvestment, and education offer the opportunity to engage a diverse audience with broad perspectives.

The City of Trees film is an award-winning documentary telling a deeply personal story about environmental justice, green jobs, and the ‘messy truths’ behind the fight for social change. This story centers on the efforts undertaken by the nonprofit Washington Parks & People (WPP) to improve a neighborhood park in Washington D.C, while operating a green jobs training program to provide employment opportunities for local residents.

Previous screening of this remarkable film held in other cities like Los Angeles, California have been accompanied by reflective conversations on economic disparities and income inequality. For the New York City film screening we will focus on the green jobs landscape and discuss comminalties as well as contrasts drawn between New York City and the Washington D.C. story being told.

With a hint of dark humor, Zane York transforms traditional floral still lives and familiar scenes into unexpected compositions in Nature Morte. Clusters of insects morph into floral arrangements, and cats in the clutches of pigeons rise to the heavens. Executed in the style and skill of famed Dutch masters, York reminds us of the mortality, transience, and vulnerability of all living things.

From schools to homeless shelters, prisons to community centers, the Public Theater’s Mobile Unit brings Shakespeare to the people, and the people to Shakespeare. This season, the Mobile Unit celebrates 60 years of igniting dialogue and fostering new connections with a vibrant new production of the gender-bending, heart-mending comedy, Twelfth Night.

When a young shipwrecked immigrant named Viola takes a chance on the “wet foot, dry foot” policy of the mid-nineties and washes up amidst the shore of glitzy Illyria, Florida, she finds herself a stranger in a fabulously strange new land. Thinking her twin brother has drowned, Viola throws herself into a new gig as assistant to Orsino, a wealthy Floridian with a serious case of love sickness for a wealthy lady, Olivia. Having disguised herself as a boy to become Orsino’s right hand man, Viola (now Cesario) is tasked with delivering his adoring valentines. But as Viola woos in her boss’s name, she falls head over spiky heels for the man himself, while Olivia turns her affections to the intriguing young messenger boy, Cesario (also Viola).

Set to the rhythms of house, Cuban, and nineties beats, Saheem Ali directs this colorful comedy about the power of new people and new experiences that throw the world into beautiful disarray, and open hearts and minds to the possibility of love.

Imani Uzuri performs!

NYC H2O is offering free tours of the Ridgewood Reservoir to community members and the public.

The Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park is a 50+ acre natural oasis that straddles the border of Brooklyn and Queens. Built in 1859 to supply the once independent City of Brooklyn with high quality water, it became obsolete with the addition of new reservoirs in the Catskills in the 1950’s and was decommissioned in the 1980’s. Since then, nature took its course in a perfect case study of ecological succession. A lush and dense forest has grown in its two outside basins while a freshwater pond with waterfowl sits in the middle basin.

Did you know that the north end of Central Park has a rich history that includes the British having been stationed here during the American Revolution, and American troops stationed there during the War of 1812? Recent archaeological and historical investigations in the area have revealed even more information about how the "Fort Landscape" was used in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, before this area was part of Central Park. This season, join our guides and learn the history of this part of the park, get insight into the studies in the area, and appreciate the recent restorations undertaken by the Conservancy.

Highlights of this tour include McGowan's Pass, Fort Clinton, Nutter's Battery, and the Harlem Meer.

In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would be serving as the official residence of the First Family of New York City—a place where history is made, not merely recorded.

As a historic house museum run by NYC Parks, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 10 mayors, beginning first with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Today, Gracie Mansion is occupied by the de Blasio family, which has opened its doors in the spirit of the administration's motto: one city, rising together.

In celebration of our 75th Anniversary of Gracie being a mayoral residence, Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray have introduced a new art installation, titled New York 1942. This is the second in a series of installations envisioning New York through the framework of Gracie Mansion as it has been inhabited over time. It includes artwork, documents and objects from the period that the La Guardias lived in Gracie, shown together to tell a more complete story of the overall historic context as perceived from diverse perspectives.

Hallett Nature Sanctuary is the smallest of the park's three woodland landscapes. Closed to the public in 1934, the Hallett Nature Sanctuary remained mostly untouched until 2001, when Central Park Conservancy took up a more comprehensive program of restoration and maintenance. Now, visitors can use the rustic trail to view native plantings that attract birds and other wildlife. Join our guides for this exclusive tour of the Hallett Nature Sanctuary, open to visitors only on Central Park Conservancy guided tours and during limited open hours.

The tour route involves wood-chipped trails and some hills. The tour starts and ends in front of the José Martí statue (Central Park South at Sixth Avenue)

For weather cancellation and other ticket policies, please review the Central Park Conservancy policies carefully.

Groups of seven or more must schedule a custom tour three weeks in advance at tours@centralparknyc.org.
