Ray Ferrier (Tom Cruise) is a dockworker living in New Jersey, divorced from his first wife Mary Ann (Miranda Otto) and estranged from his two children Rachel and Robbie (Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin), of whom he has custody on weekends. On one such visitation, looking after the kids becomes a little more difficult when, after a series of strange lighting storms hit his neighborhood, Ray discovers that a fleet of death-ray robotic spaceships have emerged nearby, part of the first wave of an all-out alien invasion of the Earth. In a city inhabited by anthropomorphic animals who have abandoned traditional predator/prey roles in favor of civilized coexistence, uptight rabbit police officer Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) is forced to work with charismatic fox con artist Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) to crack a major case involving the mysterious disappearance of some carnivorous citizens. Marking Socrates Sculpture Park’s 30th anniversary this year, the institution presents Landmark, a series of artist commissions and projects that transforms the land both physically and symbolically. Once an industrial landfill and illegal dumping ground, Socrates has transformed itself into New York City’s preeminent sculpture park and social space for public art, community engagement and urban discovery. Landmark directly addresses the idea of place as intimately tied to social and ecological structures, to maintenance and stewardship, and to evolution over time.

Landmark features eight different artist projects including a newly commissioned major earthwork by Meg Webster. Additional artists in the exhibition include Abigail DeVille, Brendan Fernandes, Cary Leibowitz, Jessica Segall, Casey Tang, the curatorial collective ARTPORT_making waves, and a Broadway Billboard by Hank Willis Thomas. Since its inception in 1986, Socrates and the surrounding area of Queens, New York has rapidly changed. Whether by engaging directly with the land or commenting on the neighborhood’s cultural and economic shifts, each artwork in Landmark reflects historic transformations in the making.

With our safe, easy, effective method and experienced instructors, kids will learn how to balance, pedal, start, stop, and steer a bicycle. Both artists, exhibiting in Wave Hill House, discuss their sources, techniques, and how they approach nature through painting. Specific moments observed in nature are catalysts for Rachael Wren’s abstract oil paintings, which incorporate dense mark-making and a rich palette. The Edge of Place traces her exploration of the ephemeral qualities of atmospheric space, where painted gestures conjure fragments of light streaming through trees, reflections in water or a flickering mirage, inviting viewers to enter into the illusionistic space of painting. On view in the Tea Room, Caroline Larsen’s Fruit and Foliageseries depicts still life images of fruit and other flora that evoke an exuberant tropical frenzy. The imagery draws on the artist’s recollections of her upbringing in Sarasota, Florida, of time spent in Panama as an adult, as well as her love of textiles and patterning.

Sydney Pollack directs Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway in this paranoid thriller of political intrigue, conspiracy, and cover-ups. Redford is a reader/researcher for the CIA whose co-workers are assassinated while he is, literally, out to lunch. Is it just another day at a government office? Now on the run for his life, can our hero trust anyone? Though initially a victim of kidnapping, Faye eventually provides Redford a safe haven (and more). Dave Grusin’s jazzy score was Grammy-nominated. (1975) 117 MIN. (R) (PARAMOUNT)
