Updated from the 1951 film of the same name, Angels In The Outfield takes liberties with the original to bring sentimental values to a modern setting. Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a foster child whose irresponsible father promises to get his act together when Roger's favorite baseball team, the California Angels, wins the pennant. The problem is that the Angels are in last place, so Roger prays for help to turn the team around.

Political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability when the actions of the Avengers lead to collateral damage. The new status quo deeply divides members of the team. Captain America believes superheroes should remain free to defend humanity without government interference. Iron Man sharply disagrees and supports oversight. Ballet has been seen, for the most part, with dancers of one hue. Within the last few decades, a crop of new dancers has introduced the beauty of diversity in one of the world’s most beautiful and powerful art forms, ballet.

Ernesto has exhibited at various galleries in New York City and Connecticut. He has won awards throughout the years including, the 15th Annual Brio Award, from the Bronx Council on The Arts, and First Prize in Bohemia Beers Kahlo Challenge, in which his painting became part of Bohemia Beer’s permanent collection. His paintings have appeared in newspapers and magazines such as the New York Times, Manhattan Arts International, Manhattan Times, the Advocate, and the Greenwich Times.

This season, the Public Theater's Mobile Unit presents a new, world-class production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet to audiences and community venues across New York City. Olivier Award winner Chukwudi Iwuji (The Histories, King Lear at The Public) plays the anguished prince of Denmark who is confronted at every turn with a poisonous power structure that's robbed him of his father, and forever darkened his understanding of the world. Inspired by The Mobile Unit’s unique approach to engaging diverse communities with the arts, Patricia McGregor (Hurt Village, brownsville song (b-side for tray) at Lincoln Center) directs this bold take on Shakespeare's immortal tale about family, deceit and the explosive consequences of unchecked corruption.

Emotions run wild in the mind of a little girl who is uprooted from her peaceful life in the Midwest and forced to move to San Francisco in this Pixar adventure from director Pete Docter (Up, Monsters Inc.). Young Riley was perfectly content with her life when her father landed a new job in San Francisco, and the family moved across the country. Now, as Riley prepares to navigate a new city and attend a new school, her emotional headquarters becomes a hot bed of activity. As Joy (voice of Amy Poehler) attempts to keep Riley feeling happy and positive about the move, other emotions like Fear (voice of Bill Hader), Anger (voice of Lewis Black), Disgust (voice of Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith) make the transition a bit more complicated.

In 1998, Van Cortlandt Park was designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) in New York State by National Audubon. About 230 different bird species have been recorded in Van Cortlandt Park and over 60 species breed here, as determined by the 2006 Breeding and Migrating Bird Census Project in Van Cortlandt Park—a study of an Important Bird Area conducted by NYC Audubon. Breeders include the great-horned owl, eastern wood-pewee, great crested flycatcher, northern rough-winged swallo, and rose-breasted grosbeak with the American robin and the gray catbird, being the most populous breeding species.

Former danseur with Ballet de Puerto Rico, Ernesto Camacho will present his debut exhibition, “Dreams of Color,” throughout the month. "Dreams of Color" is an exhibition that celebrates dancers of color, in the world of ballet.

The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers’ Market is opening for its eighth season of healthy food, activities, education, and food justice programming.

This year, the market will continue to grow its youth program in order to employ, educate, and empower local teenagers through the Hattie Carthan Urban Agriculture Youth Corps. We have also worked feverishly to improve the environment and delivery of services to market shoppers through strategic improvements in the physical infrastructure and by partnering with The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to increase our local visibility and foot traffic in the markets. That partnership will offer us additional market days at sister market sites in the immediate community, and to host several cultural festivals in the market and garden, author readings in the childrens garden, bike tours which complement our natural programming, and increase advertising and promotions of both markets.

The Large Market will continue its Healthy Gains through Baking with Whole Grains at the newly-improved cooking island area in September; offer eggs and herbs for sale from the Hattie Carthan chicken coops and new herbal farm, and will continue to offer individuals and institutions an opportunity to receive local vegetables, eggs, and herbs by subscribing to our alternative distribution programs—The Mixed Basket weekly Program and Institutional Basket Program.

Students split into groups according to their level of expertise, exploring movements at their own pace, whether as beginners or as more advanced students of Tai Chi.

Bike Practice Session is a two-hour, supervised practice session, not a structured class. Participants can practice on one of Bike New York’s loaner bikes (if you register in advance), though we encourage using your own bike. We provide a safe, controlled learning area and the watchful eyes of Bike New York’s trained coaches, who will offer tips on how to effectively stop, start and steer a bike. Bike Practice Session is intended for recent Learn to Ride participants, but we welcome anyone who isn’t confident with their bike control skills.
