Cinderella Samba is a contemporary twist on the classic “Cinderella” fairy tale. The CityParks PuppetMobile production sets the timeless tale in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends Rio de Janeiro’s biggest Carnival gala and dances the samba with Prince Paulo himself. After Cinderella is forced to flee the gala just before midnight, the prince sets out to find the mystery woman who stole his heart, in hopes of marrying her.

The lively production features an original commissioned musical soundtrack that brings samba center-stage; handcrafted Carnival festival floats on parade; and one-of-a-kind marionettes donning their most vibrant Carnival costumes, created by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park.

Robert Randolph & the Family Band and Eric Kranso will perform at the Bandshell as part of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, presented in partnership with the Prospect Park Alliance. For the latest information, including weather updates, set times, seating configurations, and FAQs, please visit the BRIC website.

Robert Randolph spent his childhood in the House of God Church in Orange, New Jersey, a young pedal steel player steeped in gospel music. As an adult he has become one of the greatest living guitarists, with "howling melodies and perpetually cresting, lightning-fast explorations" (Rolling Stone) that have earned him admiration from the likes of Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks. His funk-and-soul quintet ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND offers wildly energetic renditions of the music, with an assortment of onstage traditions they've gathered over the years: bandmates swap instruments, microphones get passed around the crowd, and Randolph teaches everyone new dance moves.

Gates open an hour before the performance unless otherwise noted, and all performances are rain or shine.

When a successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith) suffers a great tragedy, he retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. When his notes bring unexpected personal responses, he begins to understand how these constants interlock in a life fully lived and how even the deepest loss can reveal moments of meaning and beauty.

Plant Patterns features the work of Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao, Adrienne Elise Tarver, Karin Haas, Liesl Pfeffer, and Nick Wildermuth. The artists use plants’ impressive natural characteristics as a means to explore various themes in their graphic works. Domestic and wild flora have provided artists with inspiration for centuries. The diversity and multitude of plant colors, shapes, and repetitive forms, which evolved to lure pollinators, caution predators, and promote regeneration, are naturally appealing to artists’ sensibilities.

Sprinklerfest is a free, fun-filled summer afternoon event at Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden in Staten Island where we turn on over 30 sprinklers for kids to jump through, cool off and have a blast.

Over the past five years we have been adding activities and performances to expand the event and last year we attracted over 800 kids and their parents. This year we are again reaching out to all of our constituents, tenants and neighbors to invite them to join the fun and offer people a chance to learn more about their organizations.

There will be food vendors, sprinklers, and water slides. Entertainment will include a DJ and live music. Get excited for the NYPD rock wall, the Girl Scouts’ kids crafts, and Empire Blue Cross’s kids games–with more to come!

The rows last, depending on river conditions and rower level experience, between one and three hours. Most of these rows have mixed crews with those that have never been on the river before and some old hands. Jazz Vocalist Lezlie Harrison is her own personal renaissance. Her constant state of evolution and growth brings with it, gifts for those those paying attention. As a vocalist both bold and subtle, her vulnerability attends to the fragile matters of our collective human affairs while her optimistic momentum inspires us to rise above any tribulation to rejoice.

Be it Jazz, Blues, Gospel, Soul ,The American Song Form, original compositions, or any song in any form, Ms. Harrison will imbue it her distinctive stamp and make a very personal delivery. On the planet's premier Jazz radio station WBGO, her voice as a regular curator and presenter reveals the love and pride with which she regards America's classical music. Hyper-active on the New York and global Jazz scenes, Lezlie is also along with the late Dale Fitzgerald and trumpeter Roy Hargrove, a member of the triumvirate responsible for launching New York's world-renowned Jazz Gallery. On occasion, Lezlie lends her regal presence to the stage as an actress, bringing to those endeavors the same sense of organic elegance that she brought to the runways and photo studios of Paris some years ago. By way of her childhood in New York and North Carolina or her maturation in New York, Boston, or on stages throughout Asia, Russia, Europe, and elsewhere, Ms Lezlie Harrison shows aesthetic evidence that she is a recipient of the lessons of dignity, integrity, and grace bestowed upon her by her elders and fine tuned by her own history.
