Cinderella Samba is a contemporary twist on the classic “Cinderella” fairy tale. The CityParks PuppetMobile production sets the timeless tale in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends Rio de Janeiro’s biggest Carnival gala and dances the samba with Prince Paulo himself. After Cinderella is forced to flee the gala just before midnight, the prince sets out to find the mystery woman who stole his heart, in hopes of marrying her.

The lively production features an original commissioned musical soundtrack that brings samba center-stage; handcrafted Carnival festival floats on parade; and one-of-a-kind marionettes donning their most vibrant Carnival costumes, created by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theater in Central Park.

In partnership with Fort Greene Park Conservancy, Fort Greene artist Amanda Patenaude turned park trash into community treasure. One Map of Many Moments, the newly-completed glass mosaic map of the park, celebrates volunteerism and stewardship, and highlights park users’ favorite places, activities, and elements of the park.

One Map of Many Moments is located just southwest of the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument on a marble plinth that once held a plaque from King Juan Carlos I of Spain.

The piece will be on display from July 1, 2017 through May 2018.

For almost three years, NYC Parks and Fort Greene Park Conservancy worked together with the help of hundreds of volunteers to pick up glass shards found around the park. Originating from a time when the park fell into disrepair, the glass pieces, some dating as far back as the 1930s, emerge from the park's eroded slopes after heavy rains. Through community effort, an unsightly hazard was transformed into public art. As much a work of art as it is a work of volunteerism, the mosaic draws on the creativity and collaboration of neighbors and residents who submitted drawings for the individual fragments. According to Patenaude, "This work of art has been a catalyst to investigate issues of waste and reuse, new forms of community building and our evolving role as patrons of this beautiful park.”

The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Athletes train with experienced coaches from a variety of competitive collegiate rowing programs. Rowing is a great way to distinguish your child’s college resume, and our seasoned coaches are always available as a resource to discuss rowing at a higher level. We work on enhancing rowing skills and technique in both sweep and sculling boats.

Along with rigorous training, participants compete in select regattas throughout the summer season. For those who are considering rowing at the collegiate level, this camp is the perfect addition to develop their talent.

*Previous rowing experience is defined as at least 10 months of previous rowing experience and/or race experience in at least four high school-level regattas. All participants are selected for this program at our coaches discretion.

Plant Patterns features the work of Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao, Adrienne Elise Tarver, Karin Haas, Liesl Pfeffer, and Nick Wildermuth. The artists use plants’ impressive natural characteristics as a means to explore various themes in their graphic works. Domestic and wild flora have provided artists with inspiration for centuries. The diversity and multitude of plant colors, shapes, and repetitive forms, which evolved to lure pollinators, caution predators, and promote regeneration, are naturally appealing to artists’ sensibilities.

The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers Market is opening for its ninth season of healthy food, activities, education and food justice programming. The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers Market has engaged hundreds of local youths, distributed over 10 tons of fresh food ,recycled 24 tons of organic waste via its market compost dropoff operation, hosted 240 community market sessions, delivered 550 cooking demonstrations, 16 bread baking workshops and more in its eight seasons of operation.

2017 brings several new initiatives to the Market. This season, our newly formed food justice collective will introduce food justice activities around the newly constructed food justice mural. The market continues to grow its youth program in order to employ, educate, and empower local teenagers through the Hattie Carthan Urban Agriculture Youth Corps. Through strategic partnerships with local partners, the markets have introduced bus stop and subway advertisements, author readings in our children's garden, and weekly deliveries to Head Start and hospital outpatient centers. Our Healthy Gains through Baking with Whole Grains takes place in the cooking island area in September. The markets will continue to offer individuals and institutions an opportunity to receive local vegetables, local eggs and herbs by subscribing to our alternative distribution programs: The Mixed Basket Weekly and Institutional Basket Program.
