Throughout history, scarecrows have been the guardians of gardens. Sculptor and artist Ray Villafane returns to New York Botanical Garden to create an original installation that explores the evolution of the scarecrow in the United States, from its everyday role in agriculture to its status as a cultural icon in films and comic books.

This art display, presented by the Tri State Cadillac Dealers, features larger-than-life sculptures crafted from natural materials and set amidst the Garden’s landscape.

Explore the detailed display during the day, discover its surprises after dark, and enjoy special experiences on select dates from Cadillac.

Hallett Nature Sanctuary is the smallest of the park's three woodland landscapes. Closed to the public in 1934, the Hallett Nature Sanctuary remained mostly untouched until 2001, when Central Park Conservancy took up a more comprehensive program of restoration and maintenance. Now, visitors can use the rustic trail to view native plantings that attract birds and other wildlife. Join our guides for this exclusive tour of the Hallett Nature Sanctuary, open to visitors only on Central Park Conservancy guided tours and during limited open hours.

The tour route involves wood-chipped trails and some hills. The tour starts and ends in front of the José Martí statue (Central Park South at Sixth Avenue)

For weather cancellation and other ticket policies, please review the Central Park Conservancy policies carefully.

Groups of seven or more must schedule a custom tour three weeks in advance at tours@centralparknyc.org.

We have developed an international network of Latin American artists, as well as established the opportunity to exhibit the best of their works. This event hopes to inspire the creative mind and challenge the contemporary global art community. This group exhibition presents art as an expression of the human condition—reflecting notions of progress, civilization, welfare, society, and culture. The event is family oriented and celebrates not only the richness of the Latin American art but also the diversity of our community.

For this unique show, a collection of photographs by Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP and his late father Irwin Silver are displayed side by side. The exhibited photos show a deeply personal connection between a father and his son. A photographer, Irwin’s works are stirring black and white slices of Americana: 1950s New York City life. Mitchell’s background as an urban planner honed his eye for natural beauty and shared public spaces. His photographs depict the contrast of hard and soft landscapes across the city, especially in parks.

The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers’ Market is opening for its eighth season of healthy food, activities, education, and food justice programming.

This year, the market will continue to grow its youth program in order to employ, educate, and empower local teenagers through the Hattie Carthan Urban Agriculture Youth Corps. We have also worked feverishly to improve the environment and delivery of services to market shoppers through strategic improvements in the physical infrastructure and by partnering with The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to increase our local visibility and foot traffic in the markets. That partnership will offer us additional market days at sister market sites in the immediate community, and to host several cultural festivals in the market and garden, author readings in the childrens garden, bike tours which complement our natural programming, and increase advertising and promotions of both markets.

The Large Market will continue its Healthy Gains through Baking with Whole Grains at the newly-improved cooking island area in September; offer eggs and herbs for sale from the Hattie Carthan chicken coops and new herbal farm, and will continue to offer individuals and institutions an opportunity to receive local vegetables, eggs, and herbs by subscribing to our alternative distribution programs—The Mixed Basket weekly Program and Institutional Basket Program.

The objective of this exhibition is to create awareness of the multitude of talent in the Latino community of the Bronx.

In this multi-level class, Irving Yee, a member of the William CC Chen Tai Chi School, introduces students to the internal martial arts, and promotes an awareness of its health benefits.

Students split into groups according to their level of expertise, exploring movements at their own pace, whether as beginners or as more advanced students of Tai Chi. Please arrive on time; late-comers will not be admitted once the class begins. Sessions take place outdoors, weather permitting, with an indoor location in case of rain or humidity.

FLOW is an annual art exhibition at the Park's southern end. Randall's Island Park Alliance's goal is to foster appreciation of the shoreline through artistic expression, while calling visitors to interact with and care for the Island’s environment. Each year, FLOW features site-specific projects by participants in the Bronx Museum’s Artists in the Marketplace (AIM) program for emerging artists. Come meet the artists and hear more about their inspirations and challenges in creating these unique pieces of outdoor public art.
