NYC Parks is delighted to partner with Moose Hall Theatre Company in their high-caliber productions of Shakespeare for the wonderful communities of Inwood, Washington Heights, Harlem, and beyond!

“Comedy, love and a bit with a dog, that’s what they want” – Henslow from Shakespeare in Love by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard

See star-crossed lovers, cross-dressing, betrayal, intrigue, clowns, and a real dog! . . . Comedy with a pastiche of romance, melancholy, and a startling conclusion.

Directed by Ted Minos. Technical director/Costumes, Catherine Bruce. Music, Luke St. Francis. Fight choreography, Ray A. Rodriguez. Assistant director, Maya Kates. Graphic art, Lee Kaplan. Produced by Ted Minos for Moose Hall Theatre Company.

In this kaleidoscopic profile of New York City’s contemporary voguing scene, Swedish filmmaker Jordenö and queer community leader Twiggy Pucci Garçon join forces to showcase vogue’s unabated vitality as a dance form.

Offering a behind-the-scenes look at this underground culture and its various rival collectives, including the Opulent Haus of Pucci and the House of Unbothered Cartier, Kiki moves beyond the flashing lights and extravagant styles to grapple with the injustices faced disproportionately by LGBT youth of color. Assembled from four years’ worth of footage, this winner of the Berlinale Teddy Award is an inspiring tribute to a world in which fierce talent and tireless activism go hand in hand.

This sequel to the smash-hit comic-book epic The Avengers finds the iconic superhero team dealing with a threat of their own making: a sentient robot called Ultron (voice of James Spader), who was originally designed as part of a peacekeeping program. Since the events of the last film, Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have been working to take down various cells of a secret society of villains known as HYDRA. Their zeal to make the world a better, safer place inspires Tony Stark, genius billionaire and alter ego of Iron Man, to create Ultron in order to respond to additional threats that the Avengers aren't able to handle. Ultron, unfortunately, takes this directive way too seriously -- he believes that world peace can only be achieved by exterminating humanity, and he'll stop at nothing to accomplish this goal

Marking Socrates Sculpture Park’s 30th anniversary this year, the institution presents Landmark, a series of artist commissions and projects that transforms the land both physically and symbolically. Once an industrial landfill and illegal dumping ground, Socrates has transformed itself into New York City’s preeminent sculpture park and social space for public art, community engagement and urban discovery. Landmark directly addresses the idea of place as intimately tied to social and ecological structures, to maintenance and stewardship, and to evolution over time.

Landmark features eight different artist projects including a newly commissioned major earthwork by Meg Webster. Additional artists in the exhibition include Abigail DeVille, Brendan Fernandes, Cary Leibowitz, Jessica Segall, Casey Tang, the curatorial collective ARTPORT_making waves, and a Broadway Billboard by Hank Willis Thomas. Since its inception in 1986, Socrates and the surrounding area of Queens, New York has rapidly changed. Whether by engaging directly with the land or commenting on the neighborhood’s cultural and economic shifts, each artwork in Landmark reflects historic transformations in the making.

City Parks Foundation offers a traveling puppet show, CityParks PuppetMobile, the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, which presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.

The CityParks PuppetMobile presents the classic Puss in Boots tale, with a twist. Once upon a time there lived a young man named Ferguson Mundingle. Fergus has just the bare essentials in life – a roof over his head, the clothes on his back, and his ever faithful pet cat. One day when lamenting his poor lifestyle, Fergus is astounded when his cat stands up, begins talking and introduces himself as Puss. Puss reveals to Fergus that he is very intelligent and well traveled, and even has an idea to help Fergus improve his situation. With that in mind, Puss dons a snazzy pair of boots and sets off on an exciting magical journey. Despite his reputation as a sly trickster, Puss soon proves himself a caring friend to all, willing to help at any cost!

Randall's Island has a rich, unique and varied history. RIPA’s staff loves nothing more than to share this fascinating history with interested visitors. Two colossal bridges, both the largest of their kind when completed, span the island, which was once three separate land masses; these were combined by Robert Moses through landfill in the mid-1900s.

With William Shakespeare’s 400 anniversary in mind, we’re featuring what many believe to be his earliest play—Two Gentlemen of Verona. See star-crossed lovers, cross-dressing, betrayal, intrigue, clowns, and a real dog! . . . Comedy with a pastiche of romance, melancholy, and a startling conclusion.

Directed by Ted Minos. Technical director/Costumes, Catherine Bruce. Music, Luke St. Francis. Fight choreography, Ray A. Rodriguez. Assistant director, Maya Kates. Graphic art, Lee Kaplan. Produced by Ted Minos for Moose Hall Theatre Company.

Ultron, unfortunately, takes this directive way too seriously; he believes that world peace can only be achieved by exterminating humanity, and he'll stop at nothing to accomplish this goal. The battle between the Avengers and Ultron is further complicated by the appearance of superpowered siblings Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), who ally themselves with the homicidal android. Samuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders co-star as, respectively, S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives Nick Fury and Maria Hill. Joss Whedon, writer and director of the previous Avengers movie, returns in both capacities here.

In 1998, Van Cortlandt Park was designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) in New York State by National Audubon. About 230 different bird species have been recorded in Van Cortlandt Park and over 60 species breed here, as determined by the 2006 Breeding and Migrating Bird Census Project in Van Cortlandt Park—a study of an Important Bird Area conducted by NYC Audubon. Breeders include the great-horned owl, eastern wood-pewee, great crested flycatcher, northern rough-winged swallo, and rose-breasted grosbeak with the American robin and the gray catbird, being the most populous breeding species.

For a breath of fresh air, take your workouts outdoors. Parks are becoming a logical alternative environment for those who want to add variety to their work outs, or who just don't like the gym. And, it's an affordable way to increase physical activity opportunities, because there's nothing special to build.

The Battery Conservancy will celebrate the grand opening of The Battery Oval with a weekend fair to engage the public in our region’s biodiversity and its emerging food and plant producers, illustrating The Battery’s core values.

Over the past two decades, The Battery has transformed New York’s birthplace park into an oasis of vast perennial gardens, educational farm plots, toxin-free lawns, and sinuous bicycle paths. The Battery Fair reinstates one of the oldest uses of civic space, the public market, at one of New York’s most prominent public parks. Since antiquity, public markets have protected and promoted fresh food, regional economies, and vibrant civic spaces. The Battery Fair creates a new public stage for local food and plant purveyors inspired by this history and dedicated to the ongoing revitalization of Lower Manhattan.

The fair will showcase innovations in agriculture, horticulture, food, and craft, emphasize the connections between food production and plant production, and support and connect local small batch entrepreneurs who are defining alternative, sustainable systems of natural production without compromising taste and beauty.
