As part of the citywide Open House New York Weekend, the historic houses of Conference House Park will be open for self-guided tours. In addition to the park's namesake—the circa 1680 Conference House, the Henry Hogg Biddle House (circa 1840) with its front and rear two-story porticos, the William H. Rutan/Beckett House with its intact 1950s-era kitchen, and the Ward-Leven House circa 1830 (the second oldest within the park), will open for visitors.

Art and culture are on display during Open House New York. Visit the Conference House Association's exhibit Franklin - Printer/Writer, Scientist/Inventor, Politician/Statesman at the Lenape Gallery at the Conference House Park Visitor Center: Also, enjoy the new "Art in Parks' artwork installation titled Tree Reflections, by Harlem-based artist Susan Stair, along with an Art Lab student exhibit of drawings and botanical paintings in Main Room.

In addition to the park's historic houses, Conference House Park is home to a variety of natural habitats, flora, and fauna. Many are unique only to this area of NYC, including some red clay-colored bluffs and northern hackberry forests.

On Saturday, October 16, at noon, NYC Parks, Protectors of Pine Oak Woods, and the Natural Areas Conservancy will offer a guided tour of the park's natural landscape. The 260-acre park landscape has both shaped the man-made built environment and conversely has been shaped by human influences from the Native American Lenape people through the colonial era up to present day through natural area protection, management, and restoration. The tour will begin at the park's visitor center. Please wear walking shoes and bring water, if needed.

Did you know that the north end of Central Park has a rich history that includes the British having been stationed here during the American Revolution, and American troops stationed there during the War of 1812? Recent archaeological and historical investigations in the area have revealed even more information about how the "Fort Landscape" was used in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, before this area was part of Central Park. This season, join our guides and learn the history of this part of the park, get insight into the studies in the area, and appreciate the recent restorations undertaken by the Conservancy.

Highlights of this tour include McGowan's Pass, Fort Clinton, Nutter's Battery, and the Harlem Meer.

The tour route involves many hills and stairs, and some uneven terrain. The tour starts at Charles A. Dana Discovery Center (inside the park at 110th Street between Fifth and Lenox Avenues), and ends near the park perimeter at 106th Street and Fifth Avenue.

For weather cancellation and other ticket policies, please review the Central Park Conservancy's policies carefully.

As part of NYC Parks "Art in the Parks" program, to bring to the public both experimental and traditional art in many park locations, the Lenape Gallery at Conference House Park Visitor Center is pleased to present "Tree Reflections" by Harlem-based artist Susan Stair.

"Tree Reflections" is a multi-piece clay cast sculpture installed on the facade of the Visitor Center. and will be displayed through October 2017. Its mixture of mosaic and clay cast from the Osage Orange Tree tells the story of two parks. It was originally cast at Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem and shown in FLUXFair.NYC 2016, then moved to Conference House Park. Artist Stair cast additions of clay from a large great Osage Orange tree on site. These trees were named for the Osage Indians who used them for bow making.

We encourage you to please touch the artwork. This is a unique way to meet a tree. The Native Americans understood the spirit of trees and used nature as a cure. Stair says, “My work forms portraits of trees. The clay pressed into living trees records their race or species, age, and endurance.”

And as part of November's Native American Heritage month, Ms. Stair will premiere a new exhibit in the Lenape Gallery entitled "Lenape Landscape: Trees as Tonic". She cast six species that were important to the Lenape for medicine and food. The exhibit will run through January 2017.

Thanks to Richmond Tile for the donation of labor and time to install the 18-foot art piece on the building. The material used to back the installation is Wedi board, a product of Richmond Tile, that allowed Stair to work outdoors. There will be a demonstration of this material during the event.

Thanks to the carelessness of a cute little dog, newlyweds Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are killed in a freak auto accident. Upon arriving in the outer offices of Heaven, the couple finds that, thanks to a century's worth of bureaucratic red tape, they're on a long celestial waiting list. Before they can earn their wings, Davis and Baldwin must occupy their old house as ghosts for the next fifty years. Alas, the house is now owned by insufferable yuppies Catherine O'Hara and Jeffrey Jones. Horrified at the prospect of sharing space with these obnoxious interlopers, Davis and Baldwin do their best to scare O'Hara and Jones away, but their house-haunting skills are pathetic at best. In desperation, the ghostly couple engage the services of a veteran scaremeister: a yellow-haired, snaggle-toothed, profane, flatulent "gonzo" spirit named Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton). The problem: Beetlejuice cannot be trusted-especially when he falls in love with O'Hara and Jones' gloomy, black-clad teenaged daughter Winona Ryder.

Throughout history, scarecrows have been the guardians of gardens. Sculptor and artist Ray Villafane returns to New York Botanical Garden to create an original installation that explores the evolution of the scarecrow in the United States, from its everyday role in agriculture to its status as a cultural icon in films and comic books.

This art display, presented by the Tri State Cadillac Dealers, features larger-than-life sculptures crafted from natural materials and set amidst the Garden’s landscape.

Explore the detailed display during the day, discover its surprises after dark, and enjoy special experiences on select dates from Cadillac.
