PIP focuses on sites and parks that need major renovation and have the greatest impact on the surrounding community. Weekend cleanup days include landscaping and repairing the parks. We work with over 700 volunteers each season to help improve the park and make a positive impact on the community. The Highbridge section of the Bronx will be the theme of this month’s tour. Taking its name from the adjacent bridge built in 1848 by Irish immigrants, the Highbridge neighborhood has several community gardens occupying lots that were vacant between the 1970s and 1990s. Visit three longstanding community gardens to explore their history and meet the gardeners who currently care for them. We will visit La Isla Community Garden, Taqwa Community Farm, and the Bronx Target Garden.

Tour Guide: Bobby Gonzalez, Bronx historian.

The tour includes a delicious, healthy lunch catered by Bronx-based B. Blossom.

Join us for a concert that will follow The Amazing Bronx River Flotilla, the kick off of the Bronx River Alliance paddling season.

Enjoy a live performance by Consumata, a Brooklyn-based band that'll make you dance with cumbia-punk, ska-funk, boss-a-rengue, and dubbed out tarantellas. Using cut-ups (a technique hearkening back to the Dadaists and Beat Poets), Consumata hones in on the non-linear aspects of musical construction and collaging sounds by means of serendipity. The result is organic and unpredictable. Maybe you'll step into a frenzied mosh-pit, maybe you'll hear your grandparents' folk songs ripping through the speakers. Wherever you find yourself, it will be wild.
