Enjoy free yoga in Fort Greene Park in collaboration with the public artwork Circadia by Blythe Cain, which opens June 20. Bring a yoga mat, water, and sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothes. All levels are welcome!

This weekly class will take place on Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. from June 3 to October 14 (except July 1 and September 2).

This free event is sponsored by lushretreats.com for Circadia!

Meet at the flag pole between the monument and Visitor's Center. This yoga class will take place on the lawn in front of the Ft. Greene Park Visitor Center. Circadia is an interactive luminescent sculpture and seating system made from concrete and glow sand, which acts as a guide to the park entrance. Resembling a historic building foundation, Circadia also mimics the park's rolling hills and the natural rhythms found in nature.

This exhibition and event are made possible by the Art in the Parks: UNIQLO Park Expressions Grant, which supports the creation of artworks by New York City-based emerging artists at 10 parks that are highly visible, but underserved by cultural programming. The UNIQLO grant program will transform these locations into engaging art destinations with a series of rotating exhibitions and community events through 2019.

Step back in time to 1865, when family patriarch Seabury Tredwell died at home in his second floor bedroom. Poignant scenes of death and grief recreated in the house will explore mid-19th century mourning customs. Pay your last respects at his deathbed upstairs, or join the mourning in the double parlor, hung with black crepe and set for a mid-19th century funeral. And stage your own “postmortem” photograph in our 19th century coffin. Then share with your friends on Instagram and Twitter. #mhmcoffin2017

In Illo Tempore Vignettes is a performance of bodies suspended in time, revealing the echoes of memory, alienation, and exile. The performers parade through relentless streams of invisible stimuli in a voyage between presence and absence. The piece addresses the innumerable stories of the exiled, the ones that are visible and the ones that take place in a vacuum.

Calling all park lovers! This fall, the New York Junior League's Playground Improvement Project committee ("PIP") invites you to join them in rolling up your sleeves to help spruce up Jackie Robinson Park in Harlem!

During the weekend of October 14-15 PIP committee members, New York Junior League volunteers, and community volunteers will spend a day in the park gardening, landscaping, painting, and completing other tasks to help spruce up this highly-used space. PIP will provide you with breakfast, lunch, and a t-shirt. All volunteer days are rain or shine.

How to Register

All participants (age 16 and older) must register in advance. Volunteers can sign up at nyjl.org.

Please RSVP if you are interested in participating in one or more park days (October 14-15). Registration closes when capacity is reached or the Wednesday prior to that weekend's park days.

Please reach out to playground@nyjl.org with any questions or if you are interested in making a donation to this cause.

About the New York Junior League Playground Improvement Project

For more than 25 years, the Playground Improvement Project (PIP) has been a New York Junior League signature community project. Our volunteers create safe, beautiful, well-organized and educational play spaces for children and other members of the New York City community. PIP focuses on sites and parks that need major renovation and have the greatest impact on the surrounding community. Weekend clean up days include landscaping and repairing the parks. We work with over 700 volunteers a season to help improve the park and make a positive impact on the community.

An exhibition of site-specific artworks by Andrea Arroyo will be on view at Maggie’s Garden and Friendship Garden in Harlem, through October 31, 2017.

“Women with Wings” will feature a series of artworks inspired by the women of New York, including the historical and contemporary women who make Uptown Manhattan a diverse and vibrant community. Each piece, executed in mixed media and repurposed materials, is integrated within the natural environment of plants, grass and other elements of each garden. “Women with Wings” creates a multi-level conversation bridging local culture, nature and history that connects the past and the present.

Artworks include “Maggie’s Pearls of Wisdom”, a piece executed in acrylic, repurposed materials and beads, integrated with a Magnolia tree and inspired by the legacy of Maggie Burnett, beloved Harlem resident and founder of Maggie’s Garden, and “Women in Movement” a piece featuring multiple women silhouettes on multiple wheels hanging from light posts inside the garden.

About Free Community Rowing
The Community Rows are free sessions that include a basic introduction to rowing for first timers (safety orientation, rowing technique, and terminology) and of course plenty of actual rowing on the Hudson River. The rows take place in five-person wooden rowboats that Village Community Boathouse builds onsite. The rows last, depending on river conditions and rower level experience, between one and three hours. Most of these rows have mixed crews with those that have never been on the river before and some old hands. Visit the Village Community Boathouse's website for more information and photos!

About Village Community Boathouse
Village Community Boathouse is a 501(c)(3) non-profit run by volunteers, based on the south side of Pier 40 on the Hudson River. While our community rowing programs are free, our facilities, boats and equipment require regular upkeep and repair. Your donations make our program possible.

Included with regular admission; reservations not required.

Come celebrate the new public art installation "Faces of Railroad Park" with a fun afternoon of performances, kid-friendly activities, and art making.

Performers include Ni-Emah Bugg, CS 55 Bengal Tigers Step Team, MS 328 Poets, LaCresha Berry, Morrisania Band Project, Matthew Westerby Dance Company, and Harold Simmons.

DreamYard artists Harold Simmons and Matthew Westerby, along with David Flores, facilitated conversations with community members around the aspects of their lifestyles that they consider to be healthy habits. Interview subjects were also photographed, and these digital images were printed onto a vinyl material and then installed around the comfort station in Railroad Park.

DreamYard programs develop artistic voice, nurture young peoples’ desire to make change, and cultivate the skills necessary to reach positive goals. Young people in the Bronx need a continuous set of supports to help them towards positive outcomes as they navigate their educational pathway. Through offering sustained and meaningful supports, youth will develop the necessary tools to become creative and engaged citizens, life-long learners and the leaders and innovators of the 21st century.

Funding for this project was made possible by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as part of an initiative to create health-inspired public art installations that encourage park use and strengthen community connections.

This exhibition is part of Art in the Parks: Active Open Space presented with the Department for Health and Mental Hygiene, the Fund for Public Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The performers parade through relentless streams of invisible stimuli in a voyage between presence and absence. The piece addresses the innumerable stories of the exiled, the ones that are visible and the ones that take place in a vacuum.

Ray Felix presents a dark, yet whimsical tale based on the life of Edgar Allen Poe while residing in the Bronx. Based on both fact and fiction, "Poe is the Raven" gives new light and insight on the secret life of Edgar Allan Poe.

Inspired by his visits to Poe Cottage, Ray Felix became intrigued by spiritual ether surrounding the Poe property and the stories told by the long time
tour guide of the Poe cottage. Felix's imprint "Bronx Heroes," takes stories from American History and transforms them into super heroes. Felix believes this allows Bronxites to appreciate everyday heroes from Bronx history and gain a greater understanding of their borough’s historically rich past.

In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would be serving as the official residence of the First Family of New York City—a place where history is made, not merely recorded.

As a historic house museum run by NYC Parks, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 10 mayors, beginning first with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Today, Gracie Mansion is occupied by the de Blasio family, which has opened its doors in the spirit of the administration's motto: one city, rising together.

In celebration of our 75th Anniversary of Gracie being a mayoral residence, Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray have introduced a new art installation, titled New York 1942. This is the second in a series of installations envisioning New York through the framework of Gracie Mansion as it has been inhabited over time. It includes artwork, documents and objects from the period that the La Guardias lived in Gracie, shown together to tell a more complete story of the overall historic context as perceived from diverse perspectives.

To RSVP for a tour, please visit on.nyc.gov/gracietour.

Currently, Gracie Mansion is not offering group tours. If you are part of a private organization that would like to tour the house, please email your request, including the size of group, your name and the purpose of a tour, to gracieinfo@cityhall.nyc.gov and we will work to add you to one of the currently scheduled tours.

Photo ID required for entrance. No photography permitted in the interior. At the present time, tours are available in English only. Please plan to arrive at least five minutes in advance.
