Each winter, Wave Hill opens Glyndor Gallery as workspace for New York-area artists, giving them the unique opportunity to explore the winter landscape as a source of inspiration. Artists share aspects of their practice and engagement with Wave Hill through hands-on workshops. Workshops begin in Glyndor Gallery with an introduction to the artist’s work, then continue in the Ecology Building or Wave Hill House for the creative activity.

During the Winter Workspace, Ezra Wube will make a stop-motion, animation short based on studies of Wave Hill’s plants, insects and animals, looking at how they respond to their surroundings. Today, absorb the wintry Wave Hill landscape. Then use your observations, as well as found objects and paint, to create a short, stop-motion, animation film. Visitors aged 12 and over are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Newcomers and practicing artists alike are welcome.

The year 1619 marked the beginning of the slave trade in the Thirteen Colonies, but the first African American elected to office in the United States of America has been documented as early as 1768.

Despite slavery, prejudice and Jim Crow laws, America has seen numerous influential African American leaders who shaped the social, legal, and justice systems. In 1799, a prosperous New York merchant named Archibald Gracie built a country house overlooking a bend in the East River, five miles north of the then-New York City limits. Little did he know that, more than 200 years later, his home would be serving as the official residence of the First Family of New York City - a place where history is made, not merely recorded.

As a historic house museum run by the Parks Department, sitting on 11 acres of grounds now known as Carl Schurz Park, Gracie Mansion has served as the home of 10 mayors, beginning first with Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia in 1942. Today, Gracie Mansion is occupied by the de Blasio family, which has opened its doors in the spirit of the administration's motto: one city, rising together. In keeping with that theme, Mayor de Blasio and First Lady Chirlane McCray have introduced a new art installation, titled “Windows on the City: Looking Out at Gracie’s New York.” The installation consists of previously and newly acquired works, all from the original Gracie Mansion period, which have been curated to create a more historically accurate picture of life in New York City during the time of Gracie Mansion’s construction.

To RSVP for tour, please go to: on.nyc.gov/gracietour

Currently, Gracie Mansion is not offering group tours. If you are part of a private organization that would like to tour the house, please email your request, including the size of group, your name and the purpose of a tour, to gracieinfo@cityhall.nyc.gov, and we will work to add you to one of the currently scheduled tours.

Photo ID required for entrance. No photography permitted in the interior. At the present time, tours are available in English only. Please plan to arrive at least five minutes in advance.

Presented by Indie Lens Pop Up and WNET.

Join us for a preview screening of The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution by Stanley Nelson before it airs on PBS on February 16, 2016.

The screening will be followed by a discussion with Brittany Williams, Million Hoodies Movement for Justice, and former Black Panthers Sadiki "Bro. Shep" Ojore Olugbala, James "Tarik" Haskins; and BJ (William M. Johnson).

A new revolutionary culture emerged in the turbulent 1960s, and the Black Panther Party was at the vanguard. Weaving together a treasure trove of rare footage with the voices of a diverse group of people who were there, Stanley Nelson tells the vibrant story of a pivotal movement that feels timely all over again.

Indie Lens Pop-Up is a neighborhood series that brings people together for film screenings and community-driven conversations. Featuring documentaries seen on the PBS series Independent Lens, Indie Lens Pop-Up draws local residents, leaders, and organizations to discuss what matters most, from newsworthy topics to family and relationships. Make friends, share stories, and join the conversation. Can't attend in person? Visit Independent Lens on Facebook for information on our online Pop-Up events.

You choose the channel with your favorite music genre and dance the night away. The glowing, color-coded headsets show which music other partygoers are listening to, so you can dance along with your friends.

What to wear?
Baby, it's cold outside! Dress warmly; the event is entirely outdoors.
