Latin Festival celebrates the season finale of Dance Party, hosted and produced by Talia Castro-Pozo. The party features superb bands and expert dance instruction in Cha Cha, Boogaloo, and Salsa for extraordinary dancing experiences.

An innovative exponent of Latin jazz, salsa, and pop music for five decades, the Grammy-nominated New Swing Sextet plays Cha Cha and Boogaloo tunes that capture the excitement and turbulence of 1960s New York.

Renowned Venezuelan percussionist Luisito Quintero, who has played with such greats as Celia Cruz, Marc Anthony, and Tito Puente and was Grammy-nominated in 2015 for his 3rd Element Latin Jazz album, infuses salsa music with Afro-Caribbean rhythms to create a fresh and dynamic sound.

Festivities begin at 5pm and continue until 10pm.

The Scent of Green Papaya (L’odeur de la papaye verte)
Directed by Tran Anh Hung, 1993, 1 hour and 44 minutes, France-Vietnam
With Tran Nu Yên-Khê, Lu Man San, Truong Thi Loc

In 1950s Saigon, 10-year-old Mui (Man San) enters household service for an affluent but troubled Vietnamese family. Despite her servile role, Mui discovers beauty and epiphany in the lush physical details that envelope her. She observes her new surroundings with trusting eyes, trying to remember every detail: the smell of the green papaya, the taste of the water, and the colors of fabrics sold by the lady of the house. But one day, the father disappears with the fortune of the household.

It is said that the Internet is making the world a smaller place, connecting people and places that were once hugely separated by many miles and mindsets. However, the world has been getting “smaller” for years — in large part due to immigration and the free flow of ideas that come with it.

Now on view at the Conference House Park visitor center and at the Biddle House in Conference House Park, this exhibit highlights narratives of important pioneers in the fields of maritime navigation and communication so people today can understand how our ancestors started making the world “smaller” slowly but surely over centuries by learning how to travel vast oceans. The exhibit also includes a selection of devices, navigational maps and prints from the Museum of Maritime Navigation and Communication (located in Rosebank, S.I.), devoted to preserving and displaying devices and equipment that were used over the years to navigate waters worldwide. This exhibit also includes a working model of a dry dock.
