For this unique show, a collection of photographs by Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP and his late father Irwin Silver are displayed side by side. The exhibited photos show a deeply personal connection between a father and his son. A photographer, Irwin’s works are stirring black and white slices of Americana: 1950s New York City life. Mitchell’s background as an urban planner honed his eye for natural beauty and shared public spaces. His photographs depict the contrast of hard and soft landscapes across the city, especially in parks.

This exhibition is open Mondays-Fridays through November 30.

The Hattie Carthan Community Farmers’ Market is opening for its eighth season of healthy food, activities, education, and food justice programming.

This year, the market will continue to grow its youth program in order to employ, educate, and empower local teenagers through the Hattie Carthan Urban Agriculture Youth Corps. We have also worked feverishly to improve the environment and delivery of services to market shoppers through strategic improvements in the physical infrastructure and by partnering with The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to increase our local visibility and foot traffic in the markets. That partnership will offer us additional market days at sister market sites in the immediate community, and to host several cultural festivals in the market and garden, author readings in the childrens garden, bike tours which complement our natural programming, and increase advertising and promotions of both markets.

The Large Market will continue its Healthy Gains through Baking with Whole Grains at the newly-improved cooking island area in September; offer eggs and herbs for sale from the Hattie Carthan chicken coops and new herbal farm, and will continue to offer individuals and institutions an opportunity to receive local vegetables, eggs, and herbs by subscribing to our alternative distribution programs—The Mixed Basket weekly Program and Institutional Basket Program.

Coined the 'wild garden' by designer Frederick Law Olmsted, the Ramble offers visitors a tranquil spot to meander along winding paths and discover hidden forest gardens. This truly is a place for the urban explorer to escape the city and get lost in nature.

Join us for a tour of this serene 36-acre woodland, led by Central Park Conservancy guides. Highlights of this tour include: the Lake, Bow Bridge, Ramble Arch, Oak Bridge, the Gill, and Azalea Pond.

The tour route involves hills, stairs, wood-chipped trails, and uneven terrain. The tour starts at Belvedere Castle (mid-Park at 79th Street) ends at Oak Bridge (West Side of the Ramble between 77th and 78th Streets).

For weather cancellation and other ticket policies, please review Central Park Conservancy's policies carefully. Groups of seven or more must schedule a custom tour three weeks in advance at tours@centralparknyc.org.For more information, please review the Frequently Asked Questions.
