Queens Theatre presents: Show Boat
A Free Lincoln Center Local Film Screening

Show Boat tells the 40-year story of the lives of performers, stagehands, and dock workers who are the denizens of the Cotton Blossom, a Mississippi River show boat. At the time he New Yorker noted that the show “was a radical departure in musical storytelling, marrying spectacle with seriousness”.

Every Friday from July 29 to August 19, Queens Theatre will present free outdoor screenings of some of the most remarkable performances from Lincoln Center in the Festival Lawn of Flushing Meadows Corona Park – right behind Queens Theatre. You are welcome to bring a blanket, beach chair and as many friends as you want to enjoy these historical performances.

Guests of all ages are sure to have a good time with Herbert, but, whatever you do, don’t call him Herbie!

This year's program includes: Julius Caesar (Sunday, August 7) and As You Like It (Sunday, August 14).

Kids & The Classics—a children’s interactive workshop—is offered prior to each performance. Designed for children ages four to 14, this program offers children a chance to interact with the actors and theatrical text by previewing characters and situations, and by making comparisons to contemporary life through theater games. The children’s program is a 45-minute workshop that begins one hour before each performance.

This family-friendly production is for lovers of Shakespeare and for those experiencing Shakespeare for the first time. All performances are free and open to the public. Bring picnic blankets or low chairs. No lines. No tickets. Seating is first-come, first-served. Stop by an hour before the show for an interactive, kids' friendly workshop.

Kids & the Classics
6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.
“Kids & the Classics” is the companion piece to Hip to Hip’s program of "Free Shakespeare in the Park”. This free 45-minute, interactive workshop is offered one hour before every performance, and is designed for children ages four to 14. It gives children a chance to interact with the text by previewing the characters and situations, creating links between the text and their own lives through theatre games, and close reading of text.

Julius Caesar
7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
In this sensational political thriller, Shakespeare explores the tension between private loyalties and the public good, and unflinchingly questions the price of freedom. Caesar is determined to crown himself as Rome’s first emperor, but a few senators, led by the idealistic, intellectual Brutus and his manipulative, rebellious friend Cassius, are prepared to sacrifice everything to liberate their country. Instead of being greeted as liberators, they are met with civil war.

With that in mind, Puss dons a snazzy pair of boots and sets off on an exciting magical journey. Despite his reputation as a sly trickster, Puss soon proves himself a caring friend to all, willing to help at any cost!
