Join Old Stone House Director of Education Maggie Weber to learn how to transform old T-shirts into a colorful rug using your Hula Hoop as a loom!

This quick and fun project for Kids 8+ requires: 1 Hula Hoop, several old T-shirts, scissors, and a roll of strong tape.

Adults will need to help kids cut the T-shirts into strips before class starts.

This is a virtual 2 week program. In session 1, we will start weaving by creating the round warp around the Hoop, and learn how to attach the T-shirt strips. In session 2, will be all about finishing the rug and learning how to tie it off. For the fullest experience, we recommend signing up for both weeks, but it is not required.

Please email manhattan.acf@parks.nyc.gov to register, and note that the class size is limited to 15 participants and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis on the day of the workshop.

Seeds of the League is the Art Students League's community program

Please note: This summer, due to the coronavirus pandemic, we're offering outdoor programs with limited attendance so that you can have a safe and enjoyable time in parks. Based on New York State guidance for sports and recreation during COVID-19, we’ve put protocols into place to keep our participants and staff safe and healthy. We're asking everyone to help us stay safe:

  • Stay home if you're sick
  • Maintain six feet of physical distance between households
  • Wear a face covering
  • Wash your hands

Additionally, we encourage participants to bring their own hand sanitizer to our programming.

Note: Some programs may be modified, rescheduled, or cancelled due to weather, health, or safety concerns. This even will be canceled if it is raining.

All activities are meant for all ages, experience levels and backgrounds. Participants are encouraged to use/purchase an inexpensive watercolor set such as this one, but this is not a requirement. The art projects can be done with markers, crayons, pencils, or whatever else you already have around the house.

This program is currently scheduled to take place every other Wednesday evening from July 22 through September 16, from 6:30 - 7:45pm. Dates: 7/22, 8/5, 8/19, 9/2, 9/16.

Please reach out to info@hunterspointparks.org with any questions or concerns.
