The 25th annual Harlem Meer Performance Festival brings the best local talent to Central Park! Enjoy a variety of performances featuring multi-cultural music and dance, family-friendly entertainment, and more while admiring the lakeside views.

Entre Amigos (Among Friends) are a two trombone-led salsa group based in Brooklyn and presided over by the formidable figure of Willie Villegas. In addition to co-leading Entre Amigos, playing timbales with the group, and producing their albums, Willie hosts the cable TV show Salsa En La Calle. No newcomer to the U.S. salsa scene, Willie has played with such luminaries as Joe Quijano, Joe Cuba, Eddie Palmieri, Frankie Ruiz, Lalo Rodríguez, Tito Puente, José Fajardo, and Paquito Guzmán.

Entre Amigos is an appropriate name for a group of talented Brooklyn-born musicians who complement each other with their versatile playing and energetic solos.

  • Johnson Morales: Pianist and co-leader who gives you an explosive style and originality beyond the normal realm.
  • Carlos Velasquez: Bassist who sets the foundation and anchors the groove.
  • Edwin Vega: Congas enhances the rhythm along with Pablito Bilbraut on bongos giving Entre Amigos that special nostalgic New York style.
  • Gamaliel Bonilla: Lead trombonist with a strong sound and bold solos, and also sings background vocals.
  • Jose Rivera: second trombonist and minor percussion adds flavor to a tee.
  • Frankie Otero: Lead vocals takes the challenge of singing with Entre Amigos knowing that at live performances he has to invent new lyrics on the spot.

All ages are welcome.

Join us this summer for special movie screenings of Ingmar Bergman films, part of a worldwide celebration to mark the 100-year anniversary of the birth of renowned director and writer Ingmar Bergman (1918 - 2007).

Autumn Sonata
Autumn Sonata was the only collaboration between cinema’s two great Bergmans: Ingmar, the iconic director of The Seventh Seal, and Ingrid, the monumental star of Casablanca. The grand dame, playing an icy concert pianist, is matched beat for beat in ferocity by the filmmaker’s recurring lead Liv Ullmann, as her eldest daughter. Over the course of a day and a long, painful night that the two spend together after an extended separation, they finally confront the bitter discord of their relationship. This cathartic pas de deux, evocatively shot in burnished harvest colors by the great Sven Nykvist, ranks among Ingmar Bergman’s major dramatic works.

The Grocer's Son (Le Fils de l’épicier)
Directed by Eric Guirado, 2007, 1h36
With Nicolas Cazalé, Clotilde Hesme, Daniel Duval, Jeanne Goupil

Presented in partnership with the Columbia Maison Française

It is summer, and Antoine (Cazalé) is forced to leave the city to return to his family in Provence. His father is sick, so he must assume the lifestyle he thought he had shed—driving the family grocery cart from hamlet to hamlet, delivering supplies to the few remaining inhabitants. Accompanied by Claire (Hesme), a friend from Paris whom he secretly has a crush on, Antoine gradually warms up to his experience in the country and his encounters with the villagers, who initially seem stubborn and gruff, but ultimately prove to be funny and endearing.

Presented in partnership with Konfederasyon Nasyonal Vodouyizan Ayisyen (K.N.V.A)

The final event of the 2018 season is our beloved Halloween Harvest Festival, which, this year, is inspired by Fet Gede, the Haitian Festival of the Ancestors. Vibrant cultural performance and activities will be provided by the New York chapter of Konfederasyon Nasyonal Vodouyizan Ayisyen (K.N.V.A), including a Gede song workshop, card readings, mini altars in the landscape honoring aspects of the Gede pantheon, and a procession culminating in a special dance and drum performance.

Join us also for our Socrates Halloween traditions: spooky costume- and art-making, fantastical face-painting with Agostino Arts, Urban Shaman Mama Donna’s harvest animal blessings for your pets, and of course, our annual Canine Costume Contest with fun prizes and local judges, including Château le Woof and Friends with Four Paws!
