The Northern Harrier, formerly known as the marsh hawk, hunts primarily on the wing and may cover up to 100 miles per day. Its prey, consisting of mostly rodents and small birds, is detected using extremely keen hearing. This raptor is considered one of the most agile and acrobatic in North America.

In fall through spring, look for harriers in wide-open grasslands, marshes, or fields.

Join the Rangers in Brookfield Park as we look for this distinctive raptor. To enhance your experinece bring a pair of binoculars, or ask a Ranger to borrwow a pair.

LIC Community Boathouse (LICCB) offers free kayaking and canoeing (weather permitting) at Hallets Cove, located just north of the park. People of all ages are welcome to participate or volunteer.

No prior boating experience is required and participants may sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. Minors (younger than 18 years old) must have a parent or guardian present. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome to accompany their owners! LICCB has life jackets available for your four-legged family members.

Please note: No RSVP is required; however, participants are encouraged to call (631) 542-2628 or visit licboathouse.org two hours prior to a scheduled paddle for updates and cancellations, especially during inclement weather.

Head to the High Line each Tuesday night for a romantic walk along the park and a chance to take a closer look at the stars. Peer through high-powered telescopes provided by the knowledgeable members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York to see rare celestial sights.

Stargazing at the High Line takes place every Tuesday, beginning at dusk, between Tuesday, April 3, and Tuesday, October 30.

In the event of rain, Stargazing on the High Line will be cancelled. Check back or follow @highlinenyc on Twitter for updates every Tuesday by 3pm.

We’ll stop at the South Bronx Farmers Market to allow for some shopping of farm-fresh produce on the way to our final stop, La Finca del Sur Urban Farm, whose crops contribute to the community market.

The Northern Harrier, formerly known as the marsh hawk, hunts primarily on the wing and may cover up to 100 miles per day. Its prey, consisting of mostly rodents and small birds, is detected using extremely keen hearing. This raptor is considered one of the most agile and acrobatic in North America.

In fall through spring, look for harriers in wide-open grasslands, marshes, or fields.

LIC Community Boathouse (LICCB) offers free kayaking and canoeing (weather permitting) at Hallets Cove, located just north of the park. People of all ages are welcome to participate or volunteer.

No prior boating experience is required and participants may sign up on a first-come, first-served basis. Minors (younger than 18 years old) must have a parent or guardian present. Well-behaved dogs are also welcome to accompany their owners! LICCB has life jackets available for your four-legged family members.

Please note: No RSVP is required; however, participants are encouraged to call (631) 542-2628 or visit licboathouse.org two hours prior to a scheduled paddle for updates and cancellations, especially during inclement weather.

Head to the High Line each Tuesday night for a romantic walk along the park and a chance to take a closer look at the stars. Peer through high-powered telescopes provided by the knowledgeable members of the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York to see rare celestial sights.

Stargazing at the High Line takes place every Tuesday, beginning at dusk, between Tuesday, April 3, and Tuesday, October 30.

In the event of rain, Stargazing on the High Line will be cancelled. Check back or follow @highlinenyc on Twitter for updates every Tuesday by 3pm.

Take our signature tour, and let Central Park Conservancy guides give you an insider's look at some of the most iconic features of the world's greatest urban park. Learn how rocky, swampy land was built into the living work of art that is Central Park today. Highlights of this tour include: the Dairy, Sheep Meadow, Cherry Hill, The Lake, Bow Bridge, Bethesda Terrace, The Mall, and Literary Walk.

Audio enhancement equipment will be used for this tour. A limited number of hearing loops are available and can be requested with ticket purchase.

Meet: Dairy Visitor Center & Gift Shop (mid-Park between 64th and 65th Streets). Enter the Park at 60th Street and Fifth Avenue, and follow the path adjacent to the drive (road) north; the Dairy will be on your left. Please note Google Maps does not recognize this location.Map of start location

Terrain: A few inclines and some stairs.

Length of Tour: Approximately 90 minutes

  • Discovery Pack, noon –3:00 p.m.: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Bird Nerd Game Hour, 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Learn about birds and nature in this fun, mildly competitive hour of puzzles, Bingo, card games, and more!
  • Animal Encounter, 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.
  • Nature on the Go!, 3:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.: An Alliance Naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us. This program leaves promptly at 3 :00 p.m..

Learn about the architecture, landscapes, and ecosystems of the Park through hands-on exploration using Discovery Kits – rugged backpacks filled with kid-friendly binoculars, field guides, and hand lenses.
