General Bike Information

Bike Rentals

Rental bikes are available at the Loeb Boathouse in Central Park, near the Fountain of the Planets in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, and at Pier 84 along the Hudson River Greenway. Rangers in both Central Park and Prospect Park also run clinics on how to in-line skate.

Bike Recycling

Through Recycle-A-Bicycle, a non-profit program that teaches high school students about bicycle repair and mechanics, and promotes bicycle safety and alternative transportation. The Recycle-A-Bicycle program recycles and reuses bicycle donations, using the parts to generate new bicycles or bicycle art, selling the bicycles for charity, or giving them (as earned) to the student mechanics. Recycle-A-Bicycle also offers inexpensive bicycles to anyone looking for a good first bicycle or reliable city wheels.

For more information about Recycle-A-Bicycle, check out their website at, or call the donation hotline, 212-260-7055.

Bike Racks

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) runs a CityRacks program. This program allows the public to obtain a bicycle rack in an area of interest (on a particular street, in a neighborhood, near a commercial district) by requesting installation of one from NYC DOT. For more information, call 311 or visit the CityRacks webpage.

Please remember, do not lock bikes to trees!
