Volunteer with the NYC Parks Stewardship Team for City of Forest Day across New York City! Join us in celebrating our urban forest with volunteer events in Brooklyn, the Bronx, and on Staten Island. Volunteers will help restore our local canopy and learn about all the benefits our city's forest provides.

Bronx: Riverdale Forest Restoration with Super Stewards

Date: 10/15/2022

Meeting Location: Meet at the Riverdale Park parking lot at Spaulding Lane and Palisade Ave

Description: Join NYC Parks and your friendly neighborhood Super Stewards for some family-friendly activities in Riverdale Park as we celebrate our love of NYC’s urban forest and help steward the land. Activities will include an educational nature walk, followed by trail clean up and maintenance, and restoration work to contribute to ecosystem health. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NYC Service.

Bronx: Seton Falls Park Forest Restoration and Plant ID Tour

Date: 10/15/2022

Meeting Location: Crawford Ave and Palmer Ave

Description: Volunteer with the Stewardship Team and Natural Areas Conservancy to protect the forested areas in Seton Falls Park! Volunteers will contribute to ongoing restoration work and learn the importance of species diversity to ecosystem health. As part of this special event, volunteers will be led on a plant identification tour. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NYC Service.

Brooklyn: East New York Street Tree Care

Date: 10/15/2022

Location: Martin Luther King Jr. Playground (Brooklyn) (opens in new tab)
Dumont Ave., Blake Ave. bet. Bradford St. and Miller Ave., Brooklyn

Meeting Location: Martin Luther King Playground at the intersection of Dumont Ave and Miller Ave

Description: Come work with NYC Parks Stewardship to care for local street trees! Volunteers will learn how to aerate, cultivate, mulch, and identify street trees. They will also learn about the important roles street trees play in New York City. Volunteers should dress in clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NYC Service.

Queens: Alley Pond Forest Restoration and Super Stewards Orientation

Meeting Location: Meet at the parking lot by the Alley Pond Adventure Course

Description: Join NYC Parks and your friendly neighborhood Super Stewards to help protect and restore the forest ecosystem in Alley Pond Park! This event, from 10am to noon, will be followed by a Super Steward Orientation session at the nearby Alley Pond Environmental Center from 1:30pm to 2:30pm, for those wishing to pursue training to become NYC Parks Super Stewards. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Space is limited and registration is required. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone. This event has been funded in part by NYC Service.

Staten Island: Conference House Park Plug and Shrub Planting

Meeting Location: Conference House Park Visitor's Center

Description: Volunteer with the Stewardship Team to plant plugs and shrubs in the forest of Conference House Park! Volunteers will be trained in proper planting techniques. Come dressed in sturdy boots or shoes, long pants, and clothing that can get dirty. Face masks may be worn at your discretion. Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone.
