Mobile Recreation Vans

NYC Parks' Mobile Recreation Program offers organized activities at a variety of community and special events. The vans provide free activities for all New York City residents of all ages.

From May to October, teams of trained Parks staff travel throughout the five boroughs of New York City to provide structured and supervised activities.

Our Mobile Recreation Vans offer a wide range of activities, many of which are able to be customized or focused for your specific community event or target audience. Here are some examples of activities we offer: 

  • Organized sports: basketball, volleyball, soccer
  • Games: relay races, jump rope, tug-o-war, hula hoops
  • Mini obstacle courses
  • Arts and crafts, face painting, balloon art
  • Nature-based programs
  • Giant and table-top board games

Please note: Our Mobile Recreation Vans visit events that are free and open to the public. These include community festivals, fairs, free programs, and other related events. Our Mobile Recreation Vans will not visit events that are exclusive to specific groups including but not limited to: ticketed events, programs associated with a fee, or block association parties.

How to Apply

The application period is closed. Please check back in the spring to apply for a Mobile Recreation Van for 2016.
