NYC Parks has announced it has closed the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center until further notice due to structural issues found during an ongoing construction project on the center’s exterior. The agency is conducting further assessments to determine the scope of the additional work needed. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
While the center is closed, all programming is cancelled.
The $9.9 million project currently underway and fully funded by Mayor Bill de Blasio will reconstruct and stabilize exterior sections of the building, including the west facade and egress stair tower. Construction started in Fall 2020.
Recreation members are encouraged to utilize nearby recreation centers that have reopened on a limited basis, including Alfred E. Smith Recreation Center and Constance Baker Motley Recreation Center (formerly Recreation Center 54). Hours of operation vary – please visit Parks’ Recreation Center page for more information.
