Join internationally-renowned tsimbl (hammered dulcimer) player Pete Rushefsky for an afternoon exploring Jewish Klezmer music – the celebratory music of the Jews of Eastern Europe that was transplanted to New York in the early 20th century, and then revitalized by a new generation of musicians beginning in the 1970s. From soulful spirituals to infectious dance tunes, Klezmer has much to offer listeners of all ages.

Pete Rushefsky is the Executive Director of the Center for Traditional Music and Dance, an organization founded in 1968 to preserve and present New York’s immigrant performing arts traditions. Rushefsky regularly performs on stages around the world from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl, has been featured on PBS’s Great Performances and NPR’s All Things Considered and Prairie Home Companion, and is currently appearing with classical violinist Itzhak Perlman and the famed Klezmer Conservatory Band in a program of Klezmer and cantorial music.

Co-presented with The Center for Traditional Music and Dance.
