PhiloSonia continues its third season and its listener-focused mission to "make music your own" with its first concert of the new year and its third of this season, "Literati III: Liebestod."

The program for Liebestod includes L. van Beethoven - Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 9, Opus 47 ("Kreutzer") and L. Janá?ek - String Quartet "Kreutzer Sonata," featuring Stanichka Dimitrova, violin; Yezu Elizabeth Woo, violin; Chieh-Fan Jay Yiu, viola; Michael Katz, cello and Spencer Myer, piano. Leo

Tolstoy’s haunting short story “The Keutzer Sonata” places Beethoven’s celebrated work at the center of a scandalous love affair with a tragic ending. PhiloSonia’s third installment pairs the sonata which served as Tolstoy’s inspiration with Janá?ek’s musical retelling of the work.

Founder, artistic director and violinist Stanichka Dimitrova has designed the PhiloSonia chamber music series around her passion to build personal connections between audience members and classical music. Over five concerts, PhiloSonia’s third season explores works inspired by literature and poetry, including scandalous narratives and fantastical fairy tales. An avid performer of contemporary music, Stanichka regularly collaborates with new and upcoming composers from the New York City area. She is currently a Teaching Artist for the New York Philharmonic’s Philharmonic Schools Program, where she participates in a variety of outreach activities and performances in public schools throughout New York.

PhiloSonia offers an insight into established and new works from the chamber music repertoire. Through compelling programming and interactive elements, listeners are guided through an in-depth exploration of a wide variety of works. PhiloSonia is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization, and has been featured in the award-winning online magazine Guernica.
