Reverend Patrick Joseph Kenny (1908-1986) founded St. Bernard’s, a local church in the Bergen Beach area. Father Kenny worked tirelessly with his parishioners, always making himself available to help with their problems. This triangle is named in his honor.

Born in Woodside, Queens, and baptized at St. Sebastian’s Church, Kenny attended Cathedral College in Brooklyn, the Institute of Philosophy, in Huntington, Long Island, and St. Mary’s Seminary, also in Huntington. He was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest on May 21, 1932 at St. Mary’s Seminary. Father Kenny was first assigned to the parish of St. Gerard Majella, in Hollis, Queens. In 1961, he received orders to oversee the establishment of a new parish in Bergen Beach, Brooklyn, to be named St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church.
