NYC PARKS CUTS THE RIBBON ON Colonel David Marcus PLAYGROUND in BROOKLYN

NYC Parks Brooklyn Borough Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey today joined City Council Member David G. Greenfield at a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completion of a major renovation at Colonel David Marcus Playground, located at East 4th Street and Avenue P.

“I want to thank City Council Member Greenfield for his constant support toward park improvements in his district,” said Commissioner Jeffrey. “Thanks to this support, Colonel David Marcus Playground is a vital center for community fitness and recreation, and will continue to see even more upgrades in the coming year.”

"Our parks benefit every single New Yorker, from the small toddler exploring a tot lot, to our seniors who can enjoy space to walk and socialize with their neighbors. We must keep these important public spaces updated and safe for use," said Councilman Greenfield. "I am proud to have been able to secure funding to upgrade these well-used handball and basketball courts and look forward to working with the Parks Department on the next improvements to Colonel David Marcus Park."

Council Member Greenfield funded $850,000 worth of improvements for this project, which completely renovated the five handball courts including new expansion joints, resurfaced walls, leveled paving and new lines. The basketball court was also completely rebuilt. Drainage and water systems were upgraded and the courts repaved, color seal coated and new lines painted. The courts include new Lexan backboards and hoops. New benches, fence repair and a new accessible drinking fountain complete the renovations.

City Council Member Greenfield has also funded upgrades to the existing comfort station, to be designed next year, as well as new play equipment for the playground, which is expected to be installed in the coming year. NYC Parks is pleased to partner with City Council Member Greenfield, who has made the improvement of open spaces a priority for his constituents and has funded almost $20 million in park improvements during his tenure in the City Council.
