Executive Director of Gracie Mansion Conservancy, Paul Gunther, will lead a one-hour tour concentrating on the architecture of this rare surviving example of a Federal-era wood frame house built as a county retreat in 1799 by Scottish immigrant and successful trader Archibald Gracie. The visit also includes the 1966 Wagner Wing built as a public event and meeting space in what as a controversial classical revival style by Mott Schmidt, whose solution flew in the face of Modernism near its theoretical apogee. Since the year 1942 the now landmark mansion serves as The People ‘s House and official residence of New York’s mayors.
