New Yorkers can beat the heat during the upcoming heat wave at NYC Parks’ free outdoor pools, beaches and spray showers

With extreme heat expected over the next three days, NYC Parks has extended pool and beach hours.

“We want New Yorkers to stay safe and cool during the high temperatures,” said NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, FAICP. “From tree shade and cooling centers to spray showers, pools and beaches, we encourage all to use our city resources to beat the heat in the coming days.”

Extended hours for Friday, July 19; Saturday, July 20; and Sunday, July 21:

POOLS: All Olympic and intermediate-sized outdoor pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
BEACHES: Beaches will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For those unable to visit one of our pools or beaches, parkgoers can also cool down at any of Parks’ more than 600 spray showers.

To accommodate the pool hours extension, Night Owl Lap Swimming will be canceled on Friday, 7/19. Early Bird lap swim and other morning programming will continue as scheduled.

Please swim only where lifeguards are present. Swimming is prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty and in closed sections. Closed sections are marked with signs and/or red flags.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures and heat indices will increase at the end of this week, reaching dangerously high levels by the weekend. Friday’s expected heat index is 98 degrees, Saturday’s expected heat index is 109 degrees, and Sunday’s expected heat index is 103 degrees.
