A Tree Grows In North Brooklyn: Geraldo Rivera Visits Mccarren Park To Replant Tree Lost In Hurricane Sandy

Andrew Newman/NYC Parks

On Tuesday, May 28, Director of MillionTreesNYC Morgan Monaco and North Brooklyn Parks Administrator Ed Janoff joined radio and television host Geraldo Rivera to plant a tree in McCarren Park. The newly planted spruce will replace the former “Geraldo Tree” which was one of more than 20,000 trees that were uprooted during Hurricane Sandy.

The newly planted tree will count as a part of MillionTreesNYC, one of the 132 PlaNYC initiatives with an ambitious goal: to plant and care for one million new trees across the City's five boroughs. Since the initiative was announced in 2007, more than 745,000 trees have been planted.
