Parks Hosts Snow Day For City's Kids

More than 5,000 turn out for sledding, snowman building, and more!

On Saturday, February 8th, kids from each of the five boroughs took to the parks for fun, free snowy activities hosted by NYC Parks & Recreation. The Bronx’s Crotona Park, Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, Manhattan’s Riverside Park, Queens’ Juniper Valley Park, and Staten’s Island’s Clove Lakes Park all hosted free outdoor recreation and winter fun – including friendly snowball fights, sledding, make-a-snowman and snow angel contests, and music.

Parks recreation staffers coordinated the day, serving more than 3,550 cups of hot chocolate and providing sleds for those looking to hit the slopes.

Parks’ Recreation mission is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active lives through sports, fitness, and outdoor adventure. The Recreation division manages 35 recreation centers that have various amenities including; indoor pools, weight rooms, gymnasiums, indoor tracks, dance studios, art studios, game rooms and computer classrooms. Recreation centers offer a wide range of programs for seniors, adults and children. Snow Day is part of our ongoing commitment to programming the outdoors and getting kids off the couch and into their neighborhood parks.
