No. 002

Previously scheduled for January 8 & 9, 2005
(and with a "no snow" date of January 16 and 17)

Winter Festival 2005 has been cancelled due to insufficient climate conditions. This annual event, usually held in the East Meadow of Central Park, features various winter activities, almost all of which require snow. With temperatures forecasted in the 60s and 50s for Thursday and Friday, artificial snow cannot be generated in time for the weekend.

"To our dismay, Mother Nature wasn’t on our side this year," said Parks & Recreation Commissioner Adrian Benepe. "This was a difficult decision to make, but, ultimately, the only one we could make. Winter Festival is one of our favorite annual events. The weather may not have cooperated this year, but we anticipate a flurry of winter fun for Winter Festival 2006."
