DATE: Sunday, May 20th, 2001
TIME: 11:00 AM
LOCATION: Juniper Valley Park, Lutheran Avenue and 71st Street, Middle Village, Queens
EVENT & PHOTO-OP: PARKS COMMISSIONER HENRY J. STERN AND COUNCIL MEMBER THOMAS V. OGNIBENE WILL BE JOINED BY CHILDREN FROM LOCAL TRACK CLUBS TO ANNOUNCE THE OPENING OF A NEW AND IMPROVED BRENNAN TRACK.
Juniper Valley Park now boasts a 400-meter all-weather state-of-the-art Mondo rubber based track. Children from local track clubs will be running a relay race on Sunday to test out Brennan Track’s latest renovations. The project, costing $1,560,000, was funded by Council Member, Thomas V. Ognibene.
Various school groups as well as community residents will be able to enjoy the luxury of this new wonderful track. The worn-out cinder has been replaced and the old concrete bleachers have been removed. The track’s new aluminum seating will allow activity inside the field to be viewed from the street. Athletes will delight in the addition of a video platform that allows track meets and other events to be taped. Shrubs and greenery have also been added to beautify Brennan Field.
This new rubber track in Juniper Valley Park is the latest addition to the Emerald Empire and joins the likes of Baisley Pond and Roy Wilkins Parks.
