Make Your New Year's Resolution With NYC Parks

Did you make a New Year's resolution yet? Here's how you can start out on the right foot to achieving your goals for 2014.

I resolve to...
Get in shape

Now that all the holiday feasting is over, what better time to refocus on getting back in shape than at the start of a new year. Run, bike, swim, dance or om your way to a better you at one of our nearby recreation centers or at a Shape Up NYC class. Check out more ways to get in shape at NYC Parks.

Eat healthier

Buy fresh, locally-grown food at one of the many Greenmarkets around the city, or get involved with a Greenthumb Garden in your community. Become a member at one of the city’s hundreds of community gardens, and learn from citizen volunteers that have been stewarding gardens over the last 30 years.

Save more, spend less

Save on gym fees by joining a nearby recreation center. Adult Recreation Center memberships are $150/year and memberships for seniors and young adults ages 18-24 are only $25/year. We have indoor pools, fitness and cardio rooms, basketball and volleyball courts, game rooms and more at our rec centers across the five boroughs.

Go Green

Start by bringing your Christmas tree to a MulchFest site where it will be chipped and turned into mulch that will nourish trees and gardens citywide. At select sites, you can take some mulch home to make your own garden a little greener. Visit our Street Tree Planting page to learn how you can plant trees to help improve your neighborhood.

What better way to show you care than by helping to make your park more beautiful? There are hundreds of community-based organizations across the city caring for parks in their neighborhoods on a regular basis. To find out if there is an active group or to learn how to start a new group, visit City Parks Foundation's Partnerships for Parks page.

Spend more time with loved ones

Take some time out to enjoy quality time with friends at families at our Ice Skating Rinks, Zoos and Aquariums, Art Exhibits, Playgrounds and more. We offer many classes, and host many events every day! Visit our Events page to find an event that's best for you. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter and never miss what's happening in Parks.
