13th Annual Chess-in-the-Parks Rapid Open

Speed Chess Match: 10:00 a.m.
Tournament Begins: 11:00 a.m.
Bethesda Fountain

More than 700 chess players of all ages will compete in the largest outdoor chess tournament in the United States at the 13th annual Chess-in-the-Parks Rapid Open. Grand Masters will kick off the event with an exhibition speed chess match, and challenge players of all levels throughout the day.

New Yorkers will be given the chance to outwit one another during the 13th annual Chess-in-the-Parks tournament. Chess sets, trophies, medals, books and other prizes will be awarded following the last round. Chess puzzles for kids will also be available throughout the day.

The Chess-in-the-Parks Rapid Open is a partnership between the Parks Department and Chess-in–the-Schools, which works to teach public school students the game of chess.

A traditional county fair with blue ribbon competitions in livestock, produce, home crafts, arts and crafts, and more. Enjoy the Amazing Maize Maze, visit the Con Edison Ecology Booth where you can adopt-a-worm for your home compost bin, get great planting tips, recycling ideas, and enjoy free crafts for kids! The fair features, pie-eating and corn-husking contests, Lumberjack shows, pig-racing, hayrides, carnival rides, and midway. Visit our Bavarian Garden, Irish band on Saturday and German band on Sunday, craft and food vendors and more. This is a fun event for the entire family!
