GreenThumb Summer Festival

Saturday, July 13

125th Street & Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard

NYC Parks Deputy Commissioner Larry Scott Blackmon and GreenThumb will host the 2013 GreenThumb Summer Festival, recognizing and celebrating GreenThumb community gardens throughout New York City. Also in attendance will be NYC Community Garden Coalition President Karen Washington, City Council Parks Committee Chair Melissa Mark-Viverito, City Council Member Inez Dickens, and New York State Assembly Member Keith Wright.

This day long celebration will serve to recognize urban farming and GreenThumb community gardens across New York City. Radio Station WBLS 107.5FM will broadcast from the site and will be accompanied by activities on the plaza. Additionally, there will be face painting, arts and crafts, food demonstrations, and a full size garden on display courtesy of the Urban Garden Center. Meet GreenThumb’s many partner organizations and learn about the resources we offer to help New Yorkers grow successful urban gardens.

Co-sponsored by New York State Assembly Member Keith Wright and NYC Council Member Inez Dickens, our greening partners for this event include: Harlem Seeds, The Circle of Brothers, Project Harmony, Green Guerillas, GrowNYC, New York Restoration Project, NYC Community Garden Coalition, Black Urban Growers, Boswyck Farms, Citizens Committee for NY, Center for Research on Environmental Decisions, Community Environmental Center, Food Bank for New York City, Hip Hop Public Health, Manhattanville Houses Resident Green Committee, NYC Compost Project in Manhattan, Corbin Hill Farms, Heritage Rose Foundation, and Casa De Frela.

4th Annual Raritan Bay Festival

Saturday, July 13

Conference House Park
Staten island

Join the Conference House Park Conservancy and NYC Parks as we celebrate the the 4th Annual Raritan Bay Festival.

There will be concerts, free kayaking and other activities for the entire day. With fishing, water rides, arts & crafts and face painting there will be events for all ages to enjoy.
Live music from Staten Island favorites will be performed on two stages at the festival. Performances include Harry Oppenheimer, Jessie Kuffner, the Midnight Choir and other acts.

Additional sponsors for the event include the Tottenville Civic Association, the New York Aquarium, and Staten Island Tri-Adventurethon.

Major League Baseball All Star Concert

Great Lawn of Central Park

Culminating one sweet day in the parks during All-Star Week, Mariah Carey will join with the New York Philharmonic on Central Park's Great Lawn for the 2013 MLB All-Star Charity Concert benefiting Sandy Relief on Saturday, July 13.

Major League Baseball announced that Carey, in a "special guest appearance" by the multiple Grammy Award winner, will perform a select number of her classic hits mixed with tracks off her new album. The New York Philharmonic, led by music director Alan Gilbert, will perform two sets of New York and baseball-themed music, including Randy Newman's suite from "The Natural" and the world premiere of Mark Isham's suite from "42."

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free to the public, but a ticket is required for each attendee. Earlier on that Saturday, MLB will host the All-Star Game 5K & Fun Run benefiting Sandy Relief presented by Nike in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.
