Reach 12: Shoelace Park


Shoelace Park includes the northernmost reach of the Bronx River  in the Bronx. Shoelace Park has been the site of both native species plantings and invasive species removal. It also offers canoe access, and is the starting point of the annual Amazing Bronx River Boat Flotilla.

Although the river at Shoelace Park has been straightened and no longer supports wetlands beyond its banks, it does have one of only two tributaries to the Bronx River in the Bronx. This tributary, draining Woodlawn Cemetery and its former freshwater wetlands is entirely piped except between Webster Ave and the railroad, and is shown below.
