Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center

Due to maintenance work on the building ventilation system, the basement area (fitness rooms, restrooms, lockers, table tennis, weightlifting platform, etc.) at Lost Battalion Hall Recreation Center will be closed on Friday, October 20 all day and on Saturday, October 21 all day. During these times the rest of the center will be open for use.

Sunrise Circuit Training

Sunrise circuit training is an exercise class especially designed for seniors who want to get moving! This class is a safe full body workout that focus on functional movements a person would have to perform in their day to day activities. Students should expect mobility work, core strengthening and improved balance by practicing exercises that challenge their body without being overly strenuous. Students will work with resistance such as dumbbells, body bars, bands, kettlebells, bands and medicine balls. Body weight excercises and low impact conditioning is included as well.

Novermber is National Novel Writing Month, and this program will be designed to help prepare the participants to be farmiliar with the different components of a novel. In the month leading up to November participants will work on their creative writing with short stories & ultimately try to write an entire novel during the month of November. We will discuss various things such as genres, then pick their favorite and write a story in that style. The goal is to write 30,000 word novel in the month of November.

ShapeUp NYC Fitness Instructor Training Program

The ShapeUp NYC Fitness Instructor Training (FIT) program is open to anyone who has a desire to lead free group fitness classes through Shape Up NYC. Applicants are not required to have a fitness or exercise science background to apply, but the strongest candidates are the ones with a demonstrated interest in fitness.

Jump on one of our bikes and start peddling! These classes provide an intense cardio workout while still catering to participants of all fitness levels. Our trained instructors will lead you through a challenging series of courses to maximize your caloric burn. The best part is that you control your own resistance and speed allowing you to continuously progress forward from your current fitness level.

The name is both a description and a goal! This is a 30 minute to 1 hour, intensive class that focuses on building core strength, endurance, and flexibility. Challenging exercises will target the lower and upper abdominals, obliques, back, and hip flexors. Modifications for beginners will be provided.
