Dorothy Day Mosaics: Iconography of An Activist
Saturday, October 22, 2022
12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.
This event repeats every day between 10/22/2022 and 10/23/2022.
Artist Kristi Pfister combines symbolic imagery associated with Dorothy Day, and fuses them with motifs that are part of the inherited vocabulary of mosaic design. The mosaics are composed of patterned shapes and quiet undulating areas of tile. They explore Day’s duality of what is “seen" - her lifetime of radical actions, with what is “unseen” - her spiritual self. Dorothy Day is a global icon for social justice, and a local icon of Staten Island where she lived in a beach bungalow along the water’s edge.
The exhibit will be on display, by appointment, through the end of the year.
There will be an exhibition opening reception on Sunday, October 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.(in conjunction with an exhibition at nearby H.H. Biddle House).
