Arts, Culture & Fun: Kym Lawrence
Friday, August 13, 2021
6:00 p.m.–7:30 p.m.
Join us for an outdoor jazz concert with Kym Lawrence.
This Harlem born Chanteuse is a master storyteller with a soulful taste of song; as an international vocalist Kym has been performing well over 35 years in US, Europe and Asia. Her unique sound, innovative phrasing, impeccable timing, ear for harmony, and emotional commitment to her songs turned her into a professional vocalist at the age of 15. Ms. Lawrence has appeared on Broadway as a pit singer for "The Wiz", "Raisin in the sun," and "Sophisticated Ladies". She has also had starring role in "Harlem Comes to Broadway" and "Women in Music". Whether working as a bandleader or as a guest vocalist, she has performed with many great jazz and rhythm and blues icons such as David "Fathead" Newman, Earl May, Bernard Purdie, Weldon Irvine, Hank Jones, and Nina Simone among acclaimed Jazz giants.
Presented in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America, with partial support from the National Endowment for the Arts, New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, and the New York State Legislature, and from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, in partnership with the City Council.
